We got a long-awaited addition to our parkrun kit this week - a defibrillator.
We want You Yangs parkrun to be the safest possible environment for our community to get together and exercise; however, until now we have not had ready access to a defibrillator.
Obviously we hope that we never need to use it but given our location, it's reassuring to know that it's there. It will be kept at the barcode scanning table for quick and easy access so it can be taken to where it is needed (as an aside, all our current Run Directors are trained in first aid as are various other volunteers and participants).
These difibs are very easy to use with clear voice instructions when you turn it on. We also have a manual which will be kept on hand with the defib and there is a video (link below) from the manufacturers of the "Lifepak Defibilator".
Special thanks to Brett Orpwood who has fundraised following his life-changing incident just prior to Christmas 2017. If you missed it, you can read about it here: http://blog.parkrun.com/au/2018/01/31/a-second-opportunity-at-life/
Brett has created a 'Gofundme' page which is still accepting donations. It is with this fudrasinging that You Yangs parkrun has been successful in obtaining a defib. https://www.gofundme.com/defibrillators-for-parkrun
Here is a brief YouTube video on how to use the defib - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3uhZPzvyu10
