Run Report – Tuggeranong parkrun #177

Tuggeranong parkrun
Event number 177
16th July 2016

Do you like your parkruns served cold?

This week there were 201 runners, of whom 12 were first timers and 23 recorded new Personal Bests. Representatives of 17 different athletics clubs took part. Thank you very much to our talented and committed group of volunteers for organising this week's event: Hilary CALDWELL, Denise CLARKE, Elizabeth DALY, Andrew DENNY, Glen FORSTER, Cathy LOWES, Michele MCDONALD, Joseph SOKAC, Andrew WAYE, Libby WERNER-GIBBINGS, Jude WOLFE and Rose YOUNG. We couldn't have done it without you.

This week was a popular one for milestones. The following runners joined the 50 club:

  • Henry ILLINGWORTH notched up his 50th parkrun with a typically blistering time. Henry has travelled to parkruns across Canberra, and also made the trip to Ballarat where he set one of his quickest times (missed a PB by a second or two), and has volunteered three times with us.
  • Stuart GORHAM is, in Gary's words, a "parkrun purist", completing all of his 50 parkruns in Tuggeranong.
  • Geoff WILLIAMS, also a parkrun purist from Tuggeranong and our local Ironman, completed his 50th parkrun, volunteering five times along the way.
  • Nathan BEASLEY, another local with all his runs in Tuggeranong, joined the 50 club today.

The following runners qualified for their black parkrun shirt with their 100th run:

  • Bede WEBSTER is making my life difficult with the number of different parkrun events he has attended - let's just say that there are 13 different parkruns on his list - joined the club today, having volunteered 7 times.
  • Caitlin DELANEY has reached her 100th parkrun in addition to volunteering an impressive 9 times.
  • Laurence ROBINSON, another parkrun traveller with 5 different events to his name, completed his 100th parkrun today.

Congratulations to all who reached a new milestone today!

Run Report – Tuggeranong parkrun #175

Tuggeranong parkrun
Event number 175
2nd July 2016

A perfect, if somewhat cool start to the weekend, allowed us to kick things off with a great parkrun in Tuggeranong. The Tuggeranong family continues to grow, with 18 first times joining us in a crowd of 177 runners. There were also 31 recorded new Personal Bests! Representatives of 14 different athletics clubs took part.

Once again we were able to get our there thanks to the efforts of our volunteer crew: Liz BARTLAM, Birgitt BUTCHERS, Penelope DANIEL, Emily HARTLEY, Kate LEHMENSICH, Monique LONSDALE, Scott MARSHALL, Michele MCDONALD, Lisa ROBERTSON, Clarissa ROSAL, Leonie SEARLE, Lindsay STOKES, Wendy YOUNG and Clancey YOUNG. There are still a few spots available for parkruns over the coming weeks, so please consider a stint as a vollie if you can so that we can keep this great event running (pun intended).

Congratulations to Megan CATLIN and Daniel INGRAM, who completed their 50th and 100th parkruns respectively. Megan is (almost) what Gary likes to refer to as a "parkrun purist", completing all but one of her parkruns with us here in Tuggeranong (the other being a quick venture to Ginninderra parkrun), and has helped out as a volunteer on three occasions. In a similar boat is Daniel, who has completed 96 out of his 100 parkruns at Tuggeranong, with the remainder within Canberra. Daniel has also been a great help with parkrun, volunteering six times, and never in the same role twice. Congratulations to you both - wear your new shirts proudly when they arrive.

Cold? Maybe a little bit. But it was sunny! Win!

Run Report – Tuggeranong parkrun #172

Tuggeranong parkrun
Event number 172
11th June 2016

Weather-wise, it was a pretty average week, but we can happily forget about that whenever we have sunny skies for parkrunday.

This week 253 runners (almost double the number from last week - surprise surprise) hit the shores of Lake Tuggeranong for their weekend parkrun fix. 12 first timers joined in the fun, and most impressively there were 26 new Personal Bests! Representatives of 19 different athletics clubs took part.

Without the following group of committed volunteers, this week's run wouldn't have been possible: James ALLNUTT, Chris EDWARDS, Wendy EDWARDS, Rebecca EDWARDS, Geoff GAUDRY, Neil HEWITT, Simon HRUZA, Fiona JOHNSTONE, Katherine STONE, Bryan THOMAS, Nick WALSHE, Liqun WANG and Daniel WHITE. Thank you to all.

A few milestones were reached this week:

  • Lorna ENGLAND clocked up her 100th parkrun, but that doesn't include a very handy 10 stints as volunteer!
  • Maia PITT also reached the 100 club, registering 12 PBs along the way. Even more impressive is that Maia is in the JW11-14 age category!
  • Rob TAYLOR joined the 50 club this week, and did so in fine style donning what we can only assume are his pyjamas?
  • Anthony NICHOLAS came out of nowhere and completed his 50th parkrun, but we didn't see him during the run briefing. Did we miss you Anthony?
  • Lillian MCINTYRE (and favourite of yours truly) became what we assume is our youngest 50 club member at Tuggeranong with matching 50 balloon and tiara, reaching the milestone a few months shy of her sixth birthday (but a week later than she wanted after her mean dad said "no" to her running it in the rain last weekend - didn't I hear about that all week).

This week also saw the awarding of our parkrunner of the month for May. The shortlist consisted of a number of worthy candidates, but none more so than Andrew DENNY. Andrew ran three times in May, and each of those runs produced a new PB, and dropping 1:39 off his time! Furthermore, Andrew has already volunteered twice this year. Well done and congratulations Andrew, picking up the gift voucher from The Runners Shop and the highly-exclusive-money-cannot-buy parkrun keyring.

On that note it's worth mentioning that The Runners Shop, which provides so much support to Tuggeranong parkrun in the form of discounts, gift vouchers and hours of volunteering, will on Tuesday commence their June sale, with 30% off clothing and loads of shoe specials. If you're after some new running gear, support the local business that supports your local parkrun, and drop in to see Nick later this week.

Run Report – Tuggeranong parkrun #171

Tuggeranong parkrun
Event number 171
4th June 2016

Well...that was an interesting day for a run.

This week produced what has to be one of the wettest parkrun events that we've ever had at Tuggeranong. Despite the weather, 133 happy runners joined in for what appeared to be (at least from the sidelines) a fun morning out on the circuit. We even had 8 first timers join us (if they enjoyed that, surely they'll be back for more, right?) and there were even 13 new Personal Bests set. What a morning!

Perfect weather?

We're always grateful to our volunteers who make each event possible, but it takes a special group of people to come out in the rain for no other reason than to allow others to run or walk. Thanks to the following people for making the event possible: William BARLOW, Linda CHARNOCK, Sally COYLE, Teresa FITZGERALD, Emily HARTLEY, Max HAYES, Casson HILL, Kristy HILL, Lisa LIN, Monique LONSDALE, Gavin MCINTYRE, Karen MCKAY and Rose YOUNG. Despite being a couple of people short, a few of our volunteers this weekend decided to help out at the last minute rather than run in order to fill the gaps in the roster (and not so they could sit undercover - Monique offered to walk the entire course in the rain as our tail runner!).

Tail swimming.

This week we recognised Bronwyn CALVER joining the 50 club with a small gathering under the cover of the BBQ area before the run began, but coming in under the radar was Brett FITZROY and Jason PHONG, who also completed their 50th parkruns this week. We looked for them beforehand, but they were nowhere to be found - maybe they were hiding from the rain in their cars beforehand? Congratulations to you all.

50 parkruns for Bronwyn.

Run Report – Tuggeranong parkrun #170

Tuggeranong parkrun
Event number 170
28th May 2016

A keen field of 243 runners took part in what might best be described as our first true autumn parkrun morning this year, with perfect duck weather (by all accounts, the ducks made their presence felt at the start). 18 were first timers joined us, and 44 parkrunners recorded new Personal Bests! Representatives of 15 different athletics clubs took part.

We'd like to express our gratitude to the following parkrunners who gave up their opportunity to get warm, and instead froze their way through the morning so that today's event could happen: Joe ARROUK, Rebecca CODY, Sally COYLE, Darron COYLE, Warren FITZPATRICK, Deirdre KERSHAW, Luke LOWES, Michele MCDONALD, Barbara MCKAY, Karen MCKAY, Alison ROBB, Julie STELLER, Steve WILDE and Geoff WOOD.

Judy BOWE, Maria BRADY and Kristin BROOKFIELD earned their membership to the 50 club, joining the ranks of the ever-increasing red-shirted crowd at Tuggeranong. Well done to you all!
