The Ponds parkrun Event #57 run report (25 June 2016)

The core team was gearing up for a snowy parkrun yesterday. We’ve had lots of rain in the previous weeks, what is a little bit of frost to make for another exciting event. Sure it was a freezing 6°C morning, but at 8am the sun radiated to warm our frozen fingers. And perhaps some parkrunners and parkwalkers suffered a bit of cabin fever from the previous rainy weekend as 293 showed up! 40 were first timers and 37 recorded newPersonal Bests.

Do you know that you could earn volunteer points and run points at the same time? Check out the photo gallery to find out how. It is a role called 'pre-event setup', we will show you how it works. If you are on taper or simply you’ve done 8 parkruns, please think about volunteering.
WE NEED YOU. Check out our roster and let us know what role interests you ~ http://www.parkrun.com.au/theponds/futureroster/ We have spaces for marshals, backup timer and photographer this upcoming Saturday.

One final message to all our beloved parkrunners who have major events this first weekend of July ~ **You are all going to rock it! Enjoy your “very long runs” and share your experience with us next parkrunday.**

The Ponds parkrun Event #54 run report (4 June 2016)

Event #54’s Run Directors Jacob and Rhoda Lipson arrived early to set up the start flags and to check the course condition after the night’s downpour. The grass was deemed too soggy, so it was decided to use the footpath for the start and finish as we did not expect our usual number of runners. The narrow footpath could accommodate about 100-150 runners. RD Peter Elsdon who was on barcode scanning duty arrived thereafter to assist. Meanwhile, star volunteers Scott Chapman and Wayne Thurlow were already busy setting up the course and the turnaround flag. One by one our committed volunteers arrived to the relief of the RDs. At 7:35am, there were more volunteers than runners. A few messaged us asking if parkrun was on. As long as you don’t see an announcement in Facebook by 7:30am, parkrun by default is going ahead. Little Linda, age 7, was all excitement to do her token support role with mum Aggy Frkal. Helen Collins arrived early for her tail running duty. John Burnelek and Daniel Banganay (both aspiring for the Duke of Edinburgh's Award) were in timekeeping and barcode scanning duties. Our five marshals who thankfully responded to our volunteer appeal were all present - Steve Short, Glenn Moffat, Rob Pridmore, Pavan Cherupalli, and Monique Dao. You guys are legends! Thank you Josh Lambino for capturing our rain soaked moments.

We had 26 keen volunteers for our 98 avid parkrunners yesterday. 9 juniors showed up. Penrith Lakes friends headed by Event Director Shelley Cootes came to join the rain run, as well as Lake Mac parkrun local Sarah Moy. If you ask the 23 who scored Personal Bests, yesterday’s parkrun was a run in perfect conditions!
