Event #52 – May 23, 2015

Another great morning at Stones Corner parkrun, congratulations to all 196 runners who got their 5km hit this week. Our first male across the line was Simon Black in 18:46 (a new PB!) and first female across the line was Alyce McKenzie in 19:58.

Congratulations to Jemma Wilson who joined the Junior 10 Club earlier this month.

I'd like to thank those who hang around after the run every week to help pack up the equipment, not official volunteers but definitely appreciated! Thanks also to Judy Burgess for the delicious fruit platter Saturday morning as well, I hope that you all enjoyed your grapes & bananas post run. Have a great week and we'll see you all next week!

Congratulations to the 195 parkrunners who turned out this week - we had a huge 51 PB's - perhaps thanks to the wonderful pacers we had out on the course on Saturday!

First female across this line this morning was Isabeau WILLIAMS in a lightening fast 19:53.

A big congratulations to our parkrunner of the Month, Judy Burgess, who is a regular volunteer and has managed to smash 13 minutes off her course time in 10 months, along with our newest 50 club member, Julie Martin.

Event #28 – November 1 2014

Congratulations to the 156 runners that joined us for a very special Halloween parkrun. It was fantastic to see so many of you get into the spirit of things with your awesome costumes. Hopefully our 31 first timers weren't too scared off by the zombies and monsters and we look forward to seeing you again next time.

In true super hero style the identity of our first male remains unknown (for some time we thought it would be a new course record, but not quite) - a good reminder to bring your bar code along! First female was Ellen Christison who ran a respectable 20:28 in her first appearance.
Keep scrolling down for the full Halloween wrap up!

Volunteers

A big thank you to all of our volunteers, you helped keep everything running perfectly and kept up the vibe with your fun and frightful costumes.

Libby • Judy • Ian • Cassandra • Deanne • Wojtek • Matthew • Clarissa • Katie • Claire

We all know the real reason we run is for the rewards at the finish line so thanks to ‘Running Guy’ for providing a tempting selection of pumpkin, spider and eyeball themed donuts.

Stones Corner parkrun Theme Morning

Our first themed parkrun was a huge success, with runners donning their finest freakiest costumes, from the masked monsters and zombies…

… to the skeletons and Bat-cruisaders.

Even our four-legged friends got into the spirit of things.

Perhaps the scariest of all was the Scream. Definitely an incentive to run a PB!

Our 27.5 minute Batgirl pacer had several runners on her heels with a few of the group even making it to ’27 heaven’ (although at the time it may have felt like Halloween hell). A big shout out to Alice who pulled in a super effort at the end to equal her PB.

After the huge success of our first themed parkrun we’ll be looking to create some more special events so watch out this space for more festivities.

Event #24 – October 4 2014

Congratulations to the 192 runners that joined us for International parkrun day, what a turnout, that's our biggest number yet since the launch, how awesome is that! We had a massive 52 first timers to Stones Corner, that's over 1/4 of the parkrunners, welcome to you all, I hope you had a fun time.

Numbers across Australia were strong, we easily cleared a new record for parkrun Australia, but unfortunately due to bad weather in the UK along with cancellations we just didn't have enough to break the record.  Fortunately with the ongoing growth of parkrun worldwide it's just a matter of time before we cross that line.

First over the line today was Michael Boden in 17:19, this was his first time at Stones Corner. First female over the line was Bec Phillipp in 19:24, well done to both of you.

Keep scrolling down to see our BIG announcement of our first theme parkrun coming up!!

As you all know we had a number of prizes to give away. I do apologise to those of you that came in later to find them all gone, unfortunately prize giving is a little difficult to work out with people leaving early and everyone completing at different times. We'll try to refine this process more in the future to make it fair for everyone.

The winners of the prizes were:
- Arden Fraser - Body Leadership Australia massage voucher
- Michael Boden - Lime and Myrtle massage voucher
- Mitch Hart - Wild Runners 4 week training voucher
- Todd Waite - Sri Chinmoy race entry
- Richard Triggs - Sri Chinmoy race entry

Congratulations to you all, and a big thank you to everyone who supplied the vouchers.

Volunteers

A big thank you to all of our volunteers, you helped keep everything running perfectly even with a bigger crowd. A big thanks also to John for taking on our newest role of volunteer co-ordinator, I really think that made a big difference and helped keep things going smoothly. Also thanks to our volunteer visitors from Calamvale parkrun, it was great having you both along, I hope you had fun.

I'll also be creating an event on Facebook as a reminder for everyone so you don't forget, so exciting :)

Event #23 – September 27 2014

It was a beautiful morning this morning for Stones Corner parkrun #23. Thank you to all of our runners for coming out and sharing your 5km with us!
Runners

Thank you also to our volunteers this week: Stephen, Andrea, Subala, Steve, Dave, Melissa, John & Adam all did a great job. See how much fun it is to volunteer?!

Volunteers

Congratulations to our super speedy runners Dan & Nikki in first male & female positions today. Great work to everyone who also got a new PB today, some very impressive results out there.

Regular parkrunner Steve Beck was disappointed that there wasn't a parkrun at his holiday destination in Thailand, so decided to have his own little "popup parkrun". The report came back that the numbers were low - just Steve and one other runner who dropped out at 500m. The dog acting as marshall at the 1km mark was appreciated and Steve was stoked with his first ever 1st position! If you "parkrun" somewhere a bit exciting, make sure to tag us in your photo on facebook, we love seeing what you guys are up to!

International parkrun Day

ipd

This Saturday 4th October is International parkrun Day! parkrun turns 10 years old this weekend, and to celebrate this huge milestone we will be attempting to break the Guinness World Record for the ‘most participants in a 5km run across multiple locations’. The current record was set by Cancer Research UK at the Race For Life One Big Day event and involved 101,246 participants at 23 locations across the UK on 4 June 2006. Global participation at parkrun last weekend was 78,442 runners at 494 events, which means we need only 47 extra runners at each event to break the record !

So, please:

- grab a friend or three
- register them online at http://www.parkrun.com.au/register/
- bring them along to parkrun on Saturday
- share the love of parkrun all over your news feed

Lets see if Stones Corner can beat our launch numbers of 247 runners, how cool would that be! Stones Corner will also be achieving a pretty massive milestone, at parkrun this Saturday we will crack the 15,000km mark for total kms run, 1000 runners and 1500 hours of running! Well done to everyone who's helped us reach these numbers.

We'll also be giving away a heap of prizes on the day including training vouchers with Wild Runners and massage vouchers from Body Leadership Australia and Lime & Myrtle. You have to be in it to win it and you won't want to miss out, there's some very cool prizes.

Parkrunner of the Month

Congratulations also to Natalie Petersen for parkrunner of the month, I hope you enjoy your free massage at Body Leadership Australia. Natalie attended all parkruns last month posting impressive PB's even with the rain and still managed to help out as a volunteer making her an easy pick for POTM.

Natalie also has an inspirational story that we have to share, her parkrunner journey hasn't been an easy one and we are inspired by her determination under such difficult circumstances. Thank you so much for sharing Natalie, her story is in the below image.

Pacer Week

It's pacer day again this Saturday, we need to fill as many times as possible so we can help everyone reach those PB's, so if you can help please contact us on our facebook page or email stonescorneroffice@parkrun.com.

If you're someone who can run a certain time confidently then you can easily be a pacer, you don't have to have done it before. It's a lot of fun and it's exciting to be able to help people along to a PB.
