Event #67 - volunteers

parkrun doesn't happen without volunteers so to keep our parkrun going we ask that our regular participants volunteer only 3 times a year.  If everyone did this, we would never have to do a call out for volunteers and it would make our jobs as Run Directors much simpler.  So if you haven't experienced 'the other side' to parkrun, then please give it a go, all our roles are super easy but vitally important and FUN!! Please check out the Future Roster on our website and email sirromethelpers@parkrun.com with your name, barcode number and date you can help out.

Club Milestones

Milestone Shirts

We like to reward the dedication and commitment of our most regular runners and volunteers. In the 5k series we have the 10, 50, 100, 250 and 500 clubs and colourful wristbands in the junior events. We also have the Volunteer club which recognises any volunteer who has volunteered on at least 25 different occasions. In the 5k series all runners who complete 50 runs are awarded a 50 Club T-shirt; those who complete 100 receive the 100 T-Shirt; those who complete 250 runs receive a 250 T-shirt; and complete 500 runs to receive the 500 T-shirt. If you have met the given criteria (run the required number of times), you might be able to claim a free milestone t-shirt from our Wiggle Store. Postage and packaging applies. Junior runners (aged 17 and under at the time of 10th run) are also awarded white 10 club T-shirts when they have completed 10 runs in the Saturday 5k events. Again these are available from our Wiggle store. However please be aware that 10 club shirts are not available in South Africa, New Zealand, Italy and France. To see a complete list of club members visit our parkrun Club Page. Remember only the 5km parkrun series (ie. Saturday morning events) count towards your running t-shirt total. Junior events and Freedom runs do not. Your qualifying runs do not have to all be at the same event. If you have achieved a milestone Club please go to the parkrun Support Website to find out how to claim your free shirt.

Defib 4 parkrun

Defibs 4 parkrun

parkrun Australia is embarking on an ambitious project to outfit each parkrun event with a defibrillator.  These units cost $2000 each and with nearly 200 events in Australia, this is a major undertaking.

The money is being raised through the Australian Sports Foundation and donations are tax-deductible. This is the best way for parkrun to raise the funds without a high overhead and is the best for those donating as it provides the tax-deductible status that parkrun can't.
Please help us raise $2,000 to purchase a defib for Sirromet parkrun.

Want to get the most out of Sirromet parkrun?   Here are some tips:

  • Make sure you've registered, printed out your barcode and brought it with you.  Without it you don't get an official time!
  • Arrive in time for the weekly run brief, it may contain important safety information
  • Don't leave with your finish token, it's ours!  It's on short-term loan to you from the finish line until you hand it to the barcode scanner (whether you're registered or not).
  • Only cross the finish line once!  Seems obvious, but it happens regularly.
  • Similar to above, if you haven't run the full 5km course, please don't cross the finish line.  Our volunteers are pretty awesome but we stop short of asking them to be mind-readers.
  • If someone appears to need assistance, ask them if they're ok.  Your run is important, but a fellow-parkrunners well-being is more important.  I'm sorry, but it is!
  • Running is important business, far too important to be taken seriously - have fun!  Celebrate your achievements and those of others, if you're going to come to Sirromet you don't really have much choice anyway, we just need a hint of an opportunity to celebrate and we're into it...get on board!
  • "parkrun" - always one word, always lower case.

Pre-run brief each week

  • If it's your first time to Sirromet parkrun please come a little bit early so you can find your way and please park only in the Cellar Door carparks.  Remember no dogs or food are permitted on Sirromet property.
  • Pre-run briefing is at 6:50am. It includes any Sirromet parkrun news and important safety information each week.
  • Follow our facebook page for more up to date information

Children at parkrun

  • All children under 11 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.  This is to ensure the safety of your child.  This is NOT negotiable and any child finishing without a parent or guardian will have their time removed from the results.  If you have a speedy child and can’t keep up, then see the Run Director and they can put a call out for someone to run with them.  Alternatively, the child needs to run slower and stay with the parent.  The same applies for a parent who runs faster than their child.
  • Please ensure your child is able to complete the entire 5km without assistance, eg. piggy back.  We want our kids to have a fun and positive experience at parkrun so please be mindful of this and ensure you only give positive encouragement.
  • If your child has needed assistance on the during the event, eg. they did part of the course in a pram or were carried, please DO NOT take a finish token for them and alert the volunteer time keeper BEFORE the finish line not to click them as a finisher.  Only participants who complete the entire 5kms on their own two legs are able to receive an official parkrun finish time.
  • Any questions, arrive early and ask the volunteer Run Director on that day

Run Report #65 – 15th April 2017

Event #65 - Run Brief

Run Brief

We had a little bigger numbers today with 110 people running or walking our course.
Oli Umemoto finished first in 19:56, while Emma Bible was today's first female in 22:34. Congrats everyone, including 24 runners who achieved a personal best today, and 36 first timers to Sirromet parkrun.
Many thanks to today's volunteers:
Brad Ward, Cooper Dunn, Fiona Wishart, Ian George, Louis Duffin, Roland Chapman and Tony Martin
We've got a full volunteer roster for next week.
Enjoy your long weekend.
Jono (RD)

It's been great to see some new faces as our attendance has risen over the last couple of weeks and it's particularly awesome to see so many people joining our regulars as the 'cheer squad on the hill'! The faster finishers who stay to spectate and cheer in the runners who follow them really do embody the spirit of parkrun by providing support and encouragement to everyone who takes part- a big high five and thanks to you all!

Event #65 - cheer squad

We were very lucky to have our very own Easter Bunny join us for our Easter weekend event- thank you very much to Tony Martin for not only being our Finish Tokens volunteer, but also providing every finisher with a chocolate treat!

Event #65 - Easter Bunny

It was also very exciting to have three generations of the same family running with us on Saturday! The picture shows grandfather Garth Diers, father Drew Hahn, and grandson Kade Diers-Hahn all running together, mum Belinda was close behind! parkrun often feels like one big family, but seeing families coming along, spending time together and being active outdoors is one of the things I really love about our events.

Event #65 - 3 generations

This Week's Heroes!!!

Brad WARD • Cooper DUNN • Fiona WISHART • Ian GEORGE • Jonathon ROSSI • Louis DUFFIN • Roland CHAPMAN • Tony MARTIN

Event #65 - volunteer collage

parkrun doesn't happen without volunteers so to keep our parkrun going we ask that our regular participants volunteer only 3 times a year.

Awards

Event #65 - VOTM

Volunteer Of The Month (VOTM) Congratulations to Grace Woodward who was randomly selected as our Volunteer Of The Month (VOTM) award for March. Grace volunteered twice in March and has volunteered four times already this year! Our Volunteer Of The Month is awarded a voucher donated by Lime and Myrtle.

Click the link below for more information or to make a donation:
https://asf.org.au/communities/parkrun/a-defib-4-sirromet-parkrun/
What you give today will help ensure the safety of all parkrunners in the future.
Thank you in advance for your support.
