Sandgate parkrun event #106 – 29th November 2014

Event number 106
29th November 2014

We were happy to discover that council had finally reopened our usual path, after 8 weeks of being upgraded.  While some runners preferred our alternate route, most were happy to be back to our trusty old route - and of course, a big thank you to council for the new, wider, smoother path!

We also had a moment's silence in honour of cricketer Phillip Hughes, and ran in his memory, knowing he was a passionate sportsman, who died doing what he loved.

We're starting to feel the heat, but we know that won't keep the runners away!  Keep up the great work everyone!

Sandgate parkrun #53 – 23rd November 2013

Wow! What an amazing morning we had for the first birthday of Sandgate parkrun! It was a beautiful cloudy morning, as we went "en blanc" - a white theme to mark the opening Ashes Test, being played in Brisbane.

We had a huge turnout of 365 - with most of them in the "white" spirit. There were some amazing costumes, including full cricket gear (helmets and pads included), a couple of mad scientists, some beautiful long white skirts (no idea how they ran in them!), angel wings, wigs and plenty more!

We were honoured to have a number of Event Directors from other events attend: Tim Oberg (parkrun General Manager), Gareth Saunders (Southbank), Alan & Roisin Burrell (Wynnum), Olivia Coop (Cleveland), Russ & Jess Jefferys (Gininderra), Kelly Daly (Kawana) and Phil & Clare Anderson (Bunyaville).

We also had many supporters who helped make our celebrations happen! Thanks to:
o Daragh from Ray White for the sausages and drinks
o Rob from Sharlow Fitness for the warm up
o Steve from Liddell Education for the rocket launch
o Victoria Newton for medals and supplying the PA equipment
o Glenn Hilber from Precision Wealth Management for funding the cake
o Janelle Page from Cornelli Cakes for making the cake
o Jess from Jessica Jades Massage for the post-run rub-downs!

Congratulations to all of the award-winners. The annual points competition place-getters were:
Women: 1. Elaine Harris 2. Lisa Dineen 3. Amanda Brooks
Men: 1. Steve Harris 2. Shaun McKee 3. Dean Spragg
Well done for your commitment to parkrun!

We also awarded medals for the following categories:
Most female firsts: Jill Gardiner
Most Male Firsts: David Lean & Phil Rorke
Sandgate spirit: Phil Rorke
