Sale parkrun Event No: 96 11th February 2017

Sale park run Event number 96 11th February 2017

WOW - What a day.  We had a record 175 parkrunners, on balmy warm morning.  What a way to start the day!  Thank you volunteers who did a magnificent job, keeping tabs of all 175 - we didn't loose a runner or even a token!

A colourful theme of rainbow colours was chosen by Cat Gangur, who was partaking for the 50th time.  Hula skirts, Lei's, braces and clown hats were in abundance.

Lily Gangur was celebrating her 10th parkrun along with Nash Monaghan who both received their Certificates.  It is great to see so many Junior park runners bringing their parents with them.

les Williams gave a run down of his recent success at races Victorian and other Championships.  I only mention it because it is parkrun that has inspired Les to go further than he thought he ever could.

I am glad to inform you that our RD Anthony Ingram, did indeed complete his Ultramarathon in New Zealand.  It must have been a hard struggle as Antho's time was somewhat longer than he expected at over 12 hours, but Antho did not give up, did not get discouraged because things were not quite going to plan.  He just kept going, and going and going and now he can call himself an Ultrarunner.  Again Antho's return to fitness started with parkrun.  Now I am not saying that our motive for parkrun should be so we can achieve mighty goals like Les and Antho.  No these are just the extraordinary stories, but we can all set ourselves small goals, like "Turning up - come rain or shine " - as I've been told there is no bad weather, just bad choice of clothing.  Or perhaps if you are walk/running, as I am now when you get to that next goal/lampost/tree, just take 5 running steps more, before the next walk.  Health at fitness are our responsibility, we all have limitations, injuries, illnesses and other life challenges, but parkrun can be a weekly challenge all within our own capabilities.

And we don't have to challenge ourselves each week, we can say, this week I'm going to just laugh, do silly jumps for the photographer, say hello to the ducks and Hi 5 as many people as possible.  Fun, friendship, fellowship whatever you like these are our prime objectives at parkrun.

So see you next week, when Glenn will be taking over as RD.  He will put up a post nearer the time about the start location, which may have to move to the Montgomery Car Park.

Sale parkrun # 95

Sale parkrun Event number 95 4th February 2017

Every parkrun is fantastic, but there's always a great buzz for the first parkrun of the month, where we get to present the parkrunner of the month and random volunteer draw. This month's worthy recipient of potm was Christine Lyon, and Glenys Hunt was the lucky winner of the Pastry and Pieces voucher. Congratulations ladies, and thank you both for your contributions to Sale parkrun.

We welcomed back Nigel Coey from his stint in Antartica. Sporting a little more facial hair than before he left! Great to have you back on the RD team Nigel :)

Another RD worthy of mention this week(although every single one of our RD's is most worthy of recognition), is Anthony Ingram, who has flown out to New Zealand to tackle his first ultra marathon...60 kms at Tarawera. Good luck Antho...enjoy those spectacular views along the way!

Congratulations Yadin Trease on 10 parkruns also...always with a hand out for a high five!

We welcomed 16 first timers this week...with Mike Maskell from Ireland who travelled to Australia as manager of the Irish Superbikes team that competed and placed 3rd in Phillip Island last weekend. It was a pleasure to catch up with him afterwards for breakfast.

Thanks to everyone who brought along their old used running shoes to donate to charity. Gez Callinan collected a large green bin full to distribute to the Sharing Soles Project, which will be distributed to the homeless both in Australia and
I hand over the reins to Karla this week. We are still looking for a photographer...so please, feel free to have a go..it's not hard!

Have a great week everyone.

Bernie

Sale parkrun no: 92 14/01/2017

Sale park run  Event number 92  14th January 2017

A blustery but dry day welcomed 102 parkrunners, many adorned in purple to help Marita Fry celebrate her 50th park run.
Celebrate she did, showing us all the main purpose pf parkrun, to have fun with friends.  Fitness comes along for the ride.

Now once again the women stole the show with Rachael O'brien meeting all the fellers

and Megan Harrison coming third.  A bit of nepotism here, as my son in law Ryan Crawford (brother of our trusty Event Director Glenn) got yet another PB, I think that's three in a row.

That despite some sleepless nights with a new baby in the house - I'm being an over proud Babi (Grandma).

So once again i must thank our volunteers for the day.  Sharyn, Lisa and Stuart were "first timers" in their jobs (no stuff up!) and were well backed up by Deanna, Marion and Lesley and little assistant photographer Isaac Palmer,

mum having stepped in at the last minute as photographer, with her new camera.  Of course you don't need a new camera, just an i phone with a bit of memory left!  Actually as long as your children are registered, they can be given an official role, like support Finish Tokens and Marshall and that makes them feel involved, no excuses for mum or dad not to volunteer, and they get their volunteer points. People seem "scared" of the photographer role, but I think it's the most fun,
null
and we can show you how to upload the photos - Chris, Lesley, Noella are experts and I'm sure would be willing to advise new photographers.
Just Love seeing whole families enjoying parkrun
How I love seeing whole families come along for the fun and camaraderie!

So see you all next week when Glenn will be back in charge.

Sale parkrun event No: 88 24/12/16

Sale park run - Event number 88 - 24th December 2016

Well what a gorgeous day!   Gorgeous weather, sunny, no wind, a trifle warm at 22 deg by the end and gorgeous people dressed in their Christmas finery.  Father Christmas's helper (me) conducted proceeding to Christmas music provided by Glenn, and ably helped by Amanda, Lily, Jenny, Steve, Belinda, Mackenzie, Ann and Sharyn who put an interesting "slant" on the photography, with a few extra shots from Chris.  Now I think this was a record with 572 photos on the album! How to choose what to enclose in this reports!
Its a day for the kids! They were all such great pics! A procession of prams!

We also had 142 runners about our third or forth largest so far, with 9 first timers.

Lily Canfield and Vanessa Borch received their 10 park run certificates, well done girls

Santa and her helpers provided a few un healthy treats, well it's Christmas so even I compromised.

Next week, Christmas Eve, I will be directing again, no more chocolate however, this will be at the usual time of 8am, then on New Years Day, Glenn will take over for a 9:30 start, so you can sleep in after welcoming in the New Year. Volunteers are OK for those days, but we need a time keeper for the 7th January , and there are many gaps for the rest of the month.  Cheers hope you are all enjoying today - Karla

Sale parkrun # 87

G'day everyone.

We had another successful and fun parkrun this last Saturday. Thanks you to everyone who came along. You're all awesome and what make Sale parkrun so special!

Big congrats to William Fry on his junior 10th parkrun. Awesome job!

Also big congrats to Helen Jones and Craig Roberts on their 50th parkruns. Thanks for being amazing supporters of Sale parkrun :)

We have our Christmas theme coming up this Saturday, being that parkrun falls on Christmas eve, so be sure to come all dressed up in your best Christmas gear! (also be smart and if you dress up as Santa with a big fur coat, it will be very hot so bring lots of water!)

We are also running a New Years day parkrun. It will be at 9:30am (there is one running at 8am, so if you're keen you could fit in both!) Hope to see you all for this one as well as our regular Saturdays!

Have a great week,

RD Antho
