Sale parkrun Event No: 96 11th February 2017

Sale park run Event number 96 11th February 2017

WOW - What a day.  We had a record 175 parkrunners, on balmy warm morning.  What a way to start the day!  Thank you volunteers who did a magnificent job, keeping tabs of all 175 - we didn't loose a runner or even a token!

A colourful theme of rainbow colours was chosen by Cat Gangur, who was partaking for the 50th time.  Hula skirts, Lei's, braces and clown hats were in abundance.

Lily Gangur was celebrating her 10th parkrun along with Nash Monaghan who both received their Certificates.  It is great to see so many Junior park runners bringing their parents with them.

les Williams gave a run down of his recent success at races Victorian and other Championships.  I only mention it because it is parkrun that has inspired Les to go further than he thought he ever could.

I am glad to inform you that our RD Anthony Ingram, did indeed complete his Ultramarathon in New Zealand.  It must have been a hard struggle as Antho's time was somewhat longer than he expected at over 12 hours, but Antho did not give up, did not get discouraged because things were not quite going to plan.  He just kept going, and going and going and now he can call himself an Ultrarunner.  Again Antho's return to fitness started with parkrun.  Now I am not saying that our motive for parkrun should be so we can achieve mighty goals like Les and Antho.  No these are just the extraordinary stories, but we can all set ourselves small goals, like "Turning up - come rain or shine " - as I've been told there is no bad weather, just bad choice of clothing.  Or perhaps if you are walk/running, as I am now when you get to that next goal/lampost/tree, just take 5 running steps more, before the next walk.  Health at fitness are our responsibility, we all have limitations, injuries, illnesses and other life challenges, but parkrun can be a weekly challenge all within our own capabilities.

And we don't have to challenge ourselves each week, we can say, this week I'm going to just laugh, do silly jumps for the photographer, say hello to the ducks and Hi 5 as many people as possible.  Fun, friendship, fellowship whatever you like these are our prime objectives at parkrun.

So see you next week, when Glenn will be taking over as RD.  He will put up a post nearer the time about the start location, which may have to move to the Montgomery Car Park.
