Christmas and New Year Day parkruns

Rockingham parkrun will not be formally staging either a Christmas Day or NYD 'bonus' parkrun.

This is in part due to the clean up from the NY Eve celebrations but also due to planning for a milestone event that will be affected by the addition of an extra run.

On the 22nd December, we will be having a Christmas themed tutu run though, so be prepared to get your jingle on!

Festive bonus parkruns

There will be no bonus parkruns taking place on either Christmas Day or New years' Day at Rockingham.

Festive Season Rockingham parkrun events

It's that crazy time of year again and everyone wants to know what festive events will be staged over the Christmas/New Year period when we have special permission to conduct extra runs.

As in previous years, there will be no Rockingham parkrun on Christmas Day (however Christmas Eve is a Saturday so parkrun will run as normal).  Also as in previous years, we will be running the New Year's Resolution Run, same time, same place as usual.  Come join us to blow away the hangover and get the New Year off to a cracking start.

Festive Season Update

So here's the scoop Rockingham parkrun peeps!

On Saturday 19th December it will be the annual Running of the Santas - Come dressed in your finest Christmas garb for a festive run, followed by a BYO BBQ breakfast afterwards.

There will not a be a bonus run on Christmas day, but parkrun will run as normal on Boxing Day, so yes, we will need volunteers.!

As has happened in previous years, we will have the Twilight Rundowner at the Rockingham parkrun course on Monday 28th December at 7pm. Be aware that this is just a social run, not an official parkrun event, so no volunteers needed, no timing, just a chance to get out and run off some the excesses of the season with some awesome folks in a beautiful beachside setting.

The NEW YEAR'S RESOLUTION RUN will be on again on New Year's Day, to start 2016 off with a fresh start. This is an official parkrun run event, so we will require volunteers as usual, and it will count towards the milestone clubs.  The even better news is that with NYD being on a Friday, you get to come and run AGAIN on Saturday for parkrun as usual! Now that's starting the new year in style!

All Rockingham parkrun events will resume as normal after this.  We will again hold our Aussie Aussie Aussie Run on Saturday 23rd January as we approach our THIRD BIRTHDAY in April.

Event #82 Tutu Run

Well it was the 22nd November, the perfect opportunity for a Tutu Run (22nd.....2,2 geddit???)

285 runners rocked out, both tutued and not tutued, for the morning, with 26 first-timers. Obviously a tutu gives an extra added boost to running, because there were also 61 PBs.

2015 New Year’s Resolution Run

It's the New Year's Resolution Run......what does this mean??  It means that once again, Rockingham parkrun will be holding a BONUS RUN on New Year's Day, starting at 8am as usual.

It means that as well as holding a normal parkrun on Saturday 27th December and Saturday 3rd January (well, as normal as they ever are haha), there will also be a Rockingham parkrun on NYD2015 which counts as an officially counted run towards your run tally.

What???? 3 parkruns within eight days? The world's gone crazy.

Volunteers will be needed as usual, results will be processed as usual.  So stay off the sauce on the last day of 2014, and herald in 2015 minus the hangover with a New Year's Resolution at Rockingham parkrun.

Event #39 Aussie Aussie Aussie Run

Well it was the day before celebrating this great country, and it was no surprise that Rockingham parkrunners put on a good display in dressing for the occasion for Event #39, the Aussie Aussie Aussie Run.

It was the first time that attendance numbers moved over the 200 mark, with 215 parkrunners (including 35 first-timers) turning up in a varied assortment of Aussie flags and the green and gold.

For full event photos, click HERE.

It was also a special day for regular Rockingham parkrunner Daphne Beckett, who celebrated her first parkrun in the 80-84 age group.

Happy Birthday Daphne!

As Daphne crossed the finish line, she was welcomed by kids, grandkids, and great-grandkids, as well as the rousing cheers of the Rockingham parkrun community.

Congratulations Daphne, we look forward to sharing many more birthdays with you.

Event #37 A Real Scorcher

The morning was off to a warm start for Event #37 on the 11th January, but there were many parkrunners undeterred by the scorching weather predicted for the day.  With smiles all round, 133 parkrunners and 13 volunteers still made it to the park on what turned out to be Perth's hottest day in 23 years.  The mercury peaked at 43.3 later in the day, but by then Event #37 was well and truly done and dusted for the day.
