Christmas 2015 and New Year’s Day 2016 parkruns

Once again, the Christmas parkrun is back with a special Parramatta parkrun scheduled for Christmas Day 2015 at the regular time of 8 am. Thanks to Murray who has volunteered to be Run Director on the day.

But that's not all folks...

In addition, for the first time ever, we are offering a New Year's Day edition of Parramatta parkrun. This will take place at the special time of 9:30 am so that those who are interested can complete the traditional "New Year's Day double" with our good friends at Rhodes parkrun who will be starting at 8 am. This is the only day of the year when you are allowed to register two parkruns on the same day. Thanks to Naomi who has volunteered to be Run Director on the day.

To top it off, it will also be business as usual on Saturdays throughout the Christmas/New Year period with regular Parramatta parkruns scheduled for December 26 (Boxing Day) and January 2. So, if you've done the maths, that is a chance to register FIVE parkruns in a nine-day period!!

Of course, all events are dependent on sufficient volunteers to go ahead, so please consider signing up as a volunteer. And finally, if you are doing the double, make sure you take it easy driving across from Rhodes.

Alternate Course

As part of the re-development of the Parramatta River foreshore, a large section of the pathway utilized by Parramatta parkrun has been temporarily closed. It is expected to be closed for several months. While a pedestrian detour is in place, it is not suitable for use for parkrun due to it being too narrow and crossing several roads. As a result, we were forced to cancel Parramatta parkrun on October 3, and we will not be able to use our regular course for the duration of the foreshore closure.

Several alternative courses have been considered and, in consultation with Parramatta Council, the Event Team have chosen an alternative course that we plan to use for the duration of the foreshore closure.

The alternative course is a two lap, out-and-back course along the same pathway we normally use. The start/finish remains in the same location. Runners will proceed as normal along the path until the point where the path is closed. At this point, runners will turnaround and head back towards the start. At the halfway mark, close to the current boardwalk marshal position, there will be second turnaround. From here, runners will proceed back to the path closure, turnaround a third time, and then return to the finish line.

We will start using this course from this Saturday (October 10).

Thanks to everyone who sent through information on the closure, provided suggestions for alternative courses, and offered to help with the change. We appreciate your input and hope to see you this Saturday as we get underway again on the alternate course.

How to check your milestone shirt status

As milestone shirts have started appearing at Parramatta parkrun, people have been asking how to claim their shirts.

First, please read this post from global HQ. It outlines where things are up to with the new milestone shirt distribution system. The summary is: there is a huge backlog, which is gradually being worked through, starting with those who have been waiting the longest. If your shirt is not ready yet, please be patient.

Second, for instructions on how to check if your shirt is ready to claim, read this post on the parkrun FAQ.
