Newy parkrun is cancelled on 2021-10-23 – Due to current COVID-19 restrictions

Restart set for 4th Dec 2021

If the NSW COVID-19 roadmap goes to plan, Newy is set to return on Saturday 4th December 2021.

That assumes we have filled all volunteer roles required to operate the event safely. If you'd like to volunteer simply email your barcode (if you have one), name and preferred role to: newy@parkrun.com.

We will post updates here if that date changes. Also check our Facebook page for regular updates and posts.

Happy running!

COVID Lockdown puts Newy on pause

NSW Health have announced a stay-at-home order on 5th August until 12.01am Friday 13th August for for Newcastle, Lake Macquarie, Maitland, Port Stephens, Singleton, Dungog, Muswellbrook and Cessnock.

This means that Newy and all other parkrun events in these LGAs will be cancelled for Saturday 7th August.

To lift the lockdown as soon as possible please do the right thing and comply, which means that (from 5pm today) everyone in these areas must stay at home unless it is for an essential reason; and no visitors in your home.

Please DO NOT ATTEND NEWY PARKRUN at the usual time. Go for a run/walk, but follow the outdoor exercise restrictions and avoid busy pedestrian zones.

For further updates on the Newy Event, follow the Newy Facebook page.

Check the NSW Health site for Newcastle regional information:

Stay safe!

We’re back from 20th Feb 2021!

COVID forced the temporary suspension of Newy parkrun in early March 2020, but almost a year later, we’re pleased to be recommencing our weekly event.

From 20th February 2021 (until further notice) Newy parkrun will be on every week at 8am. But there are a few significant changes.

Firstly, our start/finish area has moved 1km North, to share the Carrington off-lease zone. It’s a great open space that allows for our participants to socially distance before and after the event. This location is best described as the corner of Elizabeth and Young Streets, adjacent to the creek.

While the start/finish line has moved, the course footprint is much the same, with a slight modification to avoid two way traffic for a small section.

It’s important for contact tracing that all our participants check-in using the Service NSW QR code. There are multiple printed codes located around the start/finish are to allow parkrunners to check-in on arrival – or you can find the QR code on our Facebook page and check in before you leave home.

If you’re visiting or new to Newy parkrun, rock up by 7.50am to hear the first timers briefing.

We post regularly to our Facebook page, so check there for latest info.

Happy running!

2019 Christmas & NYD (1/1/20) Events

Once again (thanks to our committed event team!), Newy will be holding special events on Christmas Day in 2019 and New Year’s Day on 1st Jan 2020. This year these special days fall on a Wednesday, and both events will start at the normal time of 8:00am.

Are both events definitely going ahead?

It's very likely; however, we will only be able to proceed if we get enough volunteers to ensure both events can be managed safely. If you’re interested in volunteering on either event, we are taking volunteers now. Please email newy@parkrun.com with your barcode number, preferred role and which event you’re nominating for.

Christmas Day Info

BB will be your Run Director on Christmas Day. As a recently retired school teacher, planning is already underway. It will be a relaxed, family-friendly, social event. We encourage you to get into the festive spirit with Christmas attire and to bring your best carol-singing voice for the 12k's of Christmas and pre-run brief which kicks off at around 7:45am. We welcome regulars, newbies and visitors/tourists.

The party doesn’t stop at midnight! Danielle will be your Run Director so you can expect fun tunes when you cross the line and probably some dancing. The special New Year’s Day Event is typically quite popular, with well over 400 finishers last year. Many will be there to show off their non-hangover status and kickstart the year on the right foot… followed by the left. If you're super keen to reach a milestone, you can double-up at The Beaches parkrun which starts at 9.30am which leaves you plenty of time to get between parkruns without rushing.

The rules of delivery that will be enforced globally are:

  • No doubles allowed on Christmas Day (25th December)
  • Doubles allowed on New Year's Day (1st January), but no trebles.

Here’s a list of other local and Australian events are staging extra events:

It will be parkrun-as-usual on the Saturday's over the Christmas period, so the Newy parkrun event calendar will look like this:

  • Saturday 22nd December
  • Wednesday 25th December (Christmas Day special)
  • Saturday 28th December
  • Wednesday 1st January (New Year's Day special)
  • Saturday 4th January

If you're new to parkrun register here (free!).
