20th February 2016

Run 16 at Nambour parkrun saw us celebrating one of our parkrun community Gemma Van Hoof.

Gemma completed her 50th parkrun and her 13th run at Nambour parkun.
Over her 13 runs Gemma has managed to improve her time by 10:41min from 54:34 to a pb of 43:53

Congratulations Gemma we are so proud that you are the first person who has run their 50th parkrun on our course.

We wonder who will be the first one to achieve running 50 Nambour parkruns?

This week we had 52 runners, 16 first timers and 9 pb's.
One of our first timers not only to Nambour but also to parkrun Louise Sneekes felt great after her first run, commenting on facebook

"5 kms!! A lot up hill!!"

"I have nothing to compare it to, but i loved it! Hills were a killer though!"

" It feels great to do things that i used to think i could Never do!"

At the front of the pack
Jason Collett was first across the line in 22:16 and Kate Malsen took 21sec off her time last week to again be our first female finisher.

Saturday 13th February

After two weeks of running Plan B the sun came out and our runners had the joy of only running the twins once.

40 runners joined us on the 13th February for Nambour parkrun #15 with 10 people running our course for the first time and 5 of these runners lacing up for their very first parkrun.

Jody Fischer crossed the finish line in first place for his first Nambour parkrun in 23:35.

Our first female finisher was Kate Maslen who finished third in 26:06.

In our prerun brief we were able to recognize our parkrunner of the month for January, Rob Grimes. Rob completed 5 runs in January, including volunteering once. He also got a pb improving his overall time by 2mins 43 secs. Rob received a double pass to Nambour Majestic cinemas and a $20 voucher for a meal at Nambour Beach House Hotel.

Scott Farrell from t zero multisport came to check out our little run and stayed not only to help take photos but to also have a chat about trail running.

Wonder when we will have a sub 25min female finisher?

Plan B

Well it had to happen sooner or later.  Event number 13 after some solid rain events the creek flooded and we had to activate Plan B which meant turning around at the creek and climbing back up 'The Twins'.

Strangely though, we had no complaints even though this meant a tougher course with more overall elevation.  All the runners were on a high and the feedback overwhelmingly positive.but no-one complained even though it meant running back up the twins.

We had 57 finishers on a wet, steamy, overcast course including 14 first timers and even 3 pbs on the alternate course!

So the course record for Plan B is now held by Tim Bradshaw in a time of 23:16 it was a tough sprint race to the finish between Tim and Jason Collett the second finisher in 23:20.

Our first female finisher on Plan B was Kathleen Donaghy in a respectable 28:49 so this is the female course record.

Hopefully we wont need to activate Plan B again for a while but it will be interesting to see if anyone can go sub-20 on this course.

The runners refreshed after a muggy run with home grown local watermelon.  While some parkruns may have a coffee van, Nambour parkrun has to be different and we have a watermelon lady.

Fingers crossed things are drying up out at Parklands and we will be back on the normal course next week.
