Course change – 1st Feb 2020

Big news! We are on the move on 1st Feb!

Wait? what?

Yes - Mitchelton parkrun is moving! Not far - but we are moving a little down the bikeway - from the 1st Feb 2020 - the start finish line will be behind field 8 and 9 of the Mitchelton Football Club. This will allow us to have a smoother finish line and be able to start off the bikeway. The turn around will be past the 2nd bridge (we currently turn around before we get that far)

The Mitchelton Football Club will be allowing us to store our equipment, opening toilet facilites and will also be opening the cafe for us - so if you are keen for a post parkrun coffee or snack - then they will be there!

Mitchelton parkrun #247

Mitchelton parkrun event 247, 14 April 2018, run report

Saturday 14 April saw near perfect running conditions for Mitchelton parkrun event number 247, with a comfortable twenty degrees or so and a bit of cloud cover. Perhaps because of school holidays there were some notable absences, with some of our regulars attending other parkruns, running on beaches, running in cities, running up and down hills, and never surrendering to the prospect of a Saturday sans parkrun.

The good conditions lured 438 parkrunners to the start line, plus sundry children in prams, strollers and backpacks, and a number of canines on leads. 438 would once have been considered an enormous turnout at Mitchie, but numbers over 400 are now unremarkable. More and more people continue to discover the joy of parkrun’s weekly promise of blood, sweat, toil and tears (mainly just sweat, thankfully), and despite the commencement of Kedron, Ashgrove, Kelvin Grove, Chermside and other parkruns in our vicinity over the last couple of years we seem to keep getting bigger. This week was our third biggest attendance on record, and was the eighth time this year that we have exceeded 400 runners. Only twice prior to 2018 had we hit the 400 mark.

This week saw twelve first timers – and a special welcome to them.

Congratulations to Matthew Martin who completed his 100th parkrun, thus joining the “blackshirts”. Tim Williams and Tim Cole both completed their 50th runs, becoming members of the “redshirts” club in the process. And Arabella Jones, Daisy Thapthimthong and Archie Peyton all joined the ranks of the “whiteshirts” – juniors who have completed ten.

First runner home was Camron Dixon in a scorching 18:24, while special mention should be made of the second placegetter, Craig Fitzsimon, who was just 8 seconds behind despite pushing a pram all the way. First female home was Krystal Futter in a time of 23:00. Yvonne Boyle completed the course in a time of 44:23 and maintained her perfect record of winning her age category (85-89) every time she has run. 68 runs and 68 age category wins – can anyone match that?

47 runners, including first-timers, recorded PBs. Well done to all of you – you will look back on this and think of it as, perhaps, your finest hour (or however many minutes).

Thanks, as always, to the volunteers, without whom parkrun would not happen. Every week so much is owed by so many to so few.

Mitchelton parkrun – March 2016

Last weekend, we saw a NEW Age Grade course record at Mitchelton set by Anne RYAN (W 60-64 age category) who recorded a 91.26% run (20:58) at event number 141. What a blistering time!

So ... what is Age Grading you ask?

Well, all parkrun events use age grading to allow athletes to compare results.

Age grading takes your time and uses the world record time for your sex and age to produce a score (a percentage). This score allows you to compare your personal performance against other people's performances even though they might be a different age and a different sex to you - the higher the score the better the performance.

The scores can also be compared across different race distances - to allow you to, for example, compare a 5km time against a marathon.

So, congratulations from everyone at Mitchelton parkrun on your wonderful achievement and new PB, Anne!

Mitchelton parkrun started on 8th June 2013, and since then 4,924 different runners, including participants from 120 athletics clubs, have completed 31,104 runs covering a total distance of 155,520 km, and there have been 6,049 new Personal Bests.

Mitchelton parkrun – December 2015

As we said goodbye to 2015, what was clear, was the wonderful community that had continued to build around Mitchelton parkrun. An integral part of this, was the large and eager group of volunteers who showed up each and every Saturday at 6.30am, to help set up and bring you so many events during the year. For this, we offer a huge vote of thanks, as the event team could not have done it without you! One such volunteer who has been a strong supporter of our parkrun, is Ken Blackwell, who won our Volunteer parkrunner of the Month award for December. Good on you mate!

Although we didn't run a Christmas event, the following four days were certainly busy enough with our Boxing Day event, New Year's Day 'double' event at the later time of 8.30am and backing up again the very next day to run event #129. So, whilst a busy year has now gone, it seems 2016 will be just as busy from what we've seen with continuing 200+ participants each Saturday morning.

Since starting on the 8th June 2013, 4,390 different runners, including participants from 105 athletics clubs, have completed 26,863 runs covering a total distance of 134,315 km, and there have been 5,393 new Personal Bests. Huge numbers!

Congratulations to the 207 of you who braved the chance of rain this morning to get your parkrun fix! Your speedy first finishers this morning were Nicholas Horn (18:18) and Shiloh Watts (19:05). The amazing volunteers who made it all happen were Les Williams, Laurie Williams, Tara McMahon, Danya McMahon, Tom Hitchen, Alicia Rooney, Chun Fei Lo and your stand in photographer, Allan Davis. A mention must also go today to what seemed like a huge number of first timers! Congrats on completing your first ever parkrun, and welcome to the cult that will take over your Saturday mornings FOR THE REST OF YOUR LIVES!
