Event#77- #parkRon, forever an inspiration- 20th June 2015

Saturday morning was inspiring as well as tinged with sadness as we remembered Ron Clarke.  I grew up knowing exactly who Ron Clarke was and what he had done and always dreamed of being able to run like Ron! Sadly I have never run like Ron, but I know I am still running today at the age of 50 partly due to Ron Clarke and all he represented. I'd like to think Ron helped you run your best on #parkRon day.

We had a cool start to the run which didn't seem good at the time, but 35 PB's and lots of smiles at the finish line tell me the cooler weather is appreciated. Luckily it doesn't take long to warm up!

We welcomed 15 First Timers, 5 of who were parkrun tourists! And we had a visitor from Richmond Park parkrun, Richmond, Surrey(ie U.K.). Welcome to Elio Zentilin who ran his 222nd parkrun at Minnippi! Truly among parkrun royalty here. It was lovely to meet you Elio and hope to see you in Richmond one parkrun day. It's worth noting too, that Elio has also volunteered many times during his epic journey. Thanks Elio!

Remember...volunteer often and volunteer soon!

Enjoy the rest of the week and see you all Saturday,

Jenny

Pacer Saturday

Pacer Saturday will be held on Saturday 27th June. There will be pacers from 20min- 36.30min. Each week leading up to and including pacer Saturday we will be "shaking the can for donations" so that we can purchase a new marquee for us to be able to use each week and to be able to share with TEES, so please bring along a gold coin.

Up and coming Events

Event #72 – Sunny, with a hint of cold – 16 May 2015

Thanks to the 151 runners that we had this week, it was a chilly one :) There was so much happening on Saturday! Firstly, we celebrated volunteer week and said thanks to all our wonderful group of parkrunners that take the time to volunteer with us. If you haven't done so already, it's not hard and we don't bite :) Feel free to email us at minnippihelpers@parkrun.com with the date and volunteer role you would like to fill.

We also had David along to share the Pave Brave challenge he is completing over 100 days. To join David in a 10KM run/jog/walk, contact him on his facebook page https://www.facebook.com/pavebrave

Stephen Bloxsom and Michelle Degenhardt who celebrated their 50th parkrun, Congrats Stephen and Michelle and congratulations to those 45 (45!!) runners that achieved PBs this week.

Lastly, we sign off with a 'run safe' message. Carmel took the time on Saturday to remind everyone of the safety rules that all parkruns abide by. Remember that we share the park with other members of the public and it's our responsibility to keep them safe too. If in doubt, slow down - you can aim for that PB next week!

Have a great week!

Event #71 – Return to Minnippi – 9th May 2015

After 2 weeks off we had 137 brave runners return to a muddy course, with a pretty good water obstacle.  Let's hope this is the end of flooding for a bit as we move into the dry season.  We had 21 first timers this week, that's almost 1 in 6 people running the course for the first time. We also had 2 people join the 50 club Chrissy O'Hagan, and Jeanette Pohlman.  A big congrats to both!  Good work!

We also had 27 PBs this week and unfortunately this came at a cost, we had complaints from other users of the park.  This simply isn't acceptable and reflects on everyone.  While the temperature was nice the course wasn't up to it, we had narrow paths due to puddles that were covered in dirt and silt, and soft mud on either side.  We have to respect the park, and If being polite to another person and getting out of their way costs you a PB, so be it.  We'll be back next week, and you can try again then.

Remember, keep left, smile at other people, and have a good time!

-Andrew

Event #60 – Flood water receded – 31st January 2015

The flood waters had receded – there were plenty of smiles at Minnippi parkrun. It felt like a long time since I was standing on the “Block” welcoming everyone. It was great to see everyone back enjoying a run in our park. I always feel like am amongst family when I am at Minnippi. It had been only two week since I had been at Minnippi but I missed everyone.

I have set myself a goal this year to parkrun tourist at least once a month and I encourage you to tourist too. We have some other great runs within our district and even further afield. I know of many of our local Minnippians plan their travels around being able to parkrun too.

On Saturday I had a number of people come up and say THANK YOU – and I want to pass all of those wishes on to each and everyone on of you, we wouldn’t be what we are each and every week without all of your support, encouragement, enthusiasm – THANK YOU!

We had a number of celebrations of 50th parkruns on Saturday.   “Warm Up” Steve Barraclough and Lori Marshall. Congratulations to the both of you!

Happy Running
