Lochiel parkrun Event number 73 4th February 2017

Yet another attendance record was set at Lochiel today - 255 parkrunners!  A touch of humidity in the air made it a pretty hot run, and it was great to see people rising to the occasion nevertheless. If you've never volunteered on the finish line, it is strongly recommended - wonderful to see so many people achieving their best, helping others and just enjoying their mornings!

Thanks to our wonderful volunteers Catriona Downing, Thomas Downing, Grace Downing, Samuel Downing, Phil Downing, Murray Head, Antonietta Livolsi and Teresa Nilsson.  Thanks also to Event Director Alicia Hopper, and for technical assistance today, Michelle Nourse and John Lawrie.

Lochiel parkrun – Event number 5 – 3rd October 2015

Happy International parkrun Day!

I'm sitting here writing this with "Run to paradise" playing on the radio; very appropriate I think.

It was a warm one this morning, probably the first of many to come over the next six months. Don't forget to hydrate fully, especially if you are planning on having a couple of celebratory drinks during the Grand Final.

Good luck to all parkrunners competing in the Master's Games starting in Adelaide today.

Thanks to our wonderful volunteers this morning. You guys ROCK!

Lochiel parkrun – Event number 4 – 26th September 2015

Again we were treated with fine and sunny conditions for today's parkrun with a good turnout of runners celebrating their City-Bay runs last weekend.

We had visitors from Maribyrnong and Hobart, it was great to welcome them to the event. Even more exciting, was that we introduced parkrun to 23 brand new people.

Congratulations to Grace Downing and Gemma Greenwood, both JW11-14 on joining the 50 club.

Thank you to our volunteers, without you, we couldn't put the event on.

Lochiel parkrun – Event number 3 – 19th September 2015

The numbers were down a little for event number 3, it's not really surprising on the City-Bay weekend. It was still a fantastic turn out of 92 and we all had a great morning anyway.

We had visitors from Mount Gambier and the Gold Coast, it was great to welcome them to the event. Even more exciting, I think, was that we introduced parkrun to 10 brand new people.

I hope everyone who participated in the City-Bay had great run. It was certainly a beautiful day for it.

Lochiel parkrun – Event number 2 – 12th September 2015

It was a bit warmer for Event #2. Spring was certainly showing off. It's a timely reminder that as the weather warms up, make sure you bring along some water for yourself, the kids and the dogs.

I'm happy to say that some brought water bottles with them. A couple of you will be glad to reunite with your water bottles this coming Saturday.

I always find it interesting to have a bit of a study of the stats and the latest results page on the Lochiel parkrun page. This week, for example, we had another 64 people run our course for the first time and of those 64, 28 were new to the parkrun experience!

Something else that is really exciting is considering the impact parkrun is having over Adelaide. If you consider just the two metropolitan parkruns - Torrens and Lochiel; the largest number Torrens has ever had, so far, is 309. Now with the two events in the metropolitan area, last Saturday 413 people got out and participated in moving their bodies, spending time with other people and supporting local businesses in their communities.

To me, this sounds like a positive impact!

A warm thank you to our volunteers who did an amazing job:

Adrienne LIM  •  David CHADBOURNE  •  Erin JACK  •  Matthew NOBLE  •  Michelle NOURSE  •  Paul SEXTON

See you back out there this Saturday.
Regards, John

Lochiel parkrun Event number 1 – 5th September 2015

Something very special happened in the North Eastern suburbs of Adelaide today, parkrun came to town!

After months of planning and organising by Councilor Matthew Noble, the day finally arrived. I don't know how he did it, but he even organised the most perfect 'spring' start to the morning. With a start like that it was obvious that nothing could go wrong - and it didn't.

We thank and acknowledge the support of Mr Vince Tarzia MP, Member for Hartley and Mr Simon Brewer, Mayor of the Campbelltown City Council. Thank you for participating in the 'official' ribbon cutting ceremony.

I hope you have all had a chance to have a look at the results by now and have seen your name 'in lights'. If not you can find the results page HERE.

You will notice a few of things in the results today, some may be obvious and some not so. The first thing is that everyone is a first-timer today, makes sense right, that will change next week and only the people who run our course for the first time will be first-timers.

Also, there were no PBs (Personal Bests) today, that's because this run needed to set your base for this specific course. From now on when you run a faster time, the system will record that run as a PB so you can keep track of your progress.

Some of the things that may not be so obvious are that 35 of you were actual first-timers. Welcome to the parkrun family, we look forward to seeing you back out on the course in the weeks to come. Also, I have to make mention of a young lady I have had the pleasure of watching and running with since she started running at Torrens parkrun a couple of years ago. Grace Downing completed her 50th parkrun today, that's 250 parkrun kilometers! Grace is a member of the 11 - 14 age category and this is a huge achievement for someone of her age. This is exactly the type of thing this event was set up for. Congratulations Grace!

A huge thank you to our volunteers for allowing the event to go ahead today

First trial run 16/08/2015

A huge thank you to everyone who came along this morning to try out our new course. We had between 30 and 40 people come along from Torrens parkrun and Mount Barker parkrun. The feedback was fantastic to receive.

What was even better, was the positive bunch of people coming out early on cool Sunday morning when they could have been sleeping in.

It really proved that parkrun is the best way to start the day! ...........Hmm, maybe we should have parkrun on every day of the week, not just Saturday......

Also, that parkrunners are best people to start the day with. This is why Campbelltown are going to love this event.

Now that the website has been set up for us, you are able to interact with the event team (lochielhelpers@parkrun.com), check out the course map and directions (http://www.parkrun.com.au/lochiel/course/) and submit your name for the volunteer roster (http://www.parkrun.com.au/lochiel/futureroster/).

Next week is the Adelaide Marathon Festival, good luck to all running in the various events. For this reason, we will hold another trial on Sunday 30th August. We should have our equipment by then so we will trail that too.

We are getting excited about starting now. See you in a fortnight!
