Something very special happened in the North Eastern suburbs of Adelaide today, parkrun came to town!
After months of planning and organising by Councilor Matthew Noble, the day finally arrived. I don't know how he did it, but he even organised the most perfect 'spring' start to the morning. With a start like that it was obvious that nothing could go wrong - and it didn't.
We thank and acknowledge the support of Mr Vince Tarzia MP, Member for Hartley and Mr Simon Brewer, Mayor of the Campbelltown City Council. Thank you for participating in the 'official' ribbon cutting ceremony.
I hope you have all had a chance to have a look at the results by now and have seen your name 'in lights'. If not you can find the results page HERE.
You will notice a few of things in the results today, some may be obvious and some not so. The first thing is that everyone is a first-timer today, makes sense right, that will change next week and only the people who run our course for the first time will be first-timers.
Also, there were no PBs (Personal Bests) today, that's because this run needed to set your base for this specific course. From now on when you run a faster time, the system will record that run as a PB so you can keep track of your progress.
Some of the things that may not be so obvious are that 35 of you were actual first-timers. Welcome to the parkrun family, we look forward to seeing you back out on the course in the weeks to come. Also, I have to make mention of a young lady I have had the pleasure of watching and running with since she started running at Torrens parkrun a couple of years ago. Grace Downing completed her 50th parkrun today, that's 250 parkrun kilometers! Grace is a member of the 11 - 14 age category and this is a huge achievement for someone of her age. This is exactly the type of thing this event was set up for. Congratulations Grace!
A huge thank you to our volunteers for allowing the event to go ahead today
