Lillydale Lake parkrun – Event #235

Oh it was sooo wet this week! Well done for everyone who turned up in those conditions (an impressively large number of you), and special welcomes to our first-timers this week, showing great dedication for your first ever parkrun! And of course, thanks to our poor volunteers this week who still managed to smile and encourage us throughout - you were amazing:)

Congratulations to our newest members of our elite parkrun milestone clubs - we had two 'double' celebrations this week:

  • Mother and son duo Sarah Boschen and Joshua Radley have both reached 100 parkruns!
    • Sarah started with us June 2016, and has run 54 of her 100 with us, as well as tourist runs to Mullum Mullum (41 times), Wilson Botanic, Westerfolds, Phillip Island, Warrnambool, Main Beach (QLD) and Darwin (NT) parkruns. Her current best time is 26:09, and she has volunteered 4 times.
    • Josh started with us in May 2016, and has completed 59 events with us. He has run 36 times at Mullum Mullum (including his 100th run), and also visited Wilson Botanic, Westerfolds, Phillip Island, Main Beach (QLD) and Darwin (NT) parkruns. His current PB is 22:52, and he has volunteered 7 times.
  • Des Keukun wasn't satisfied with one milestone, but completed two significant milestones in the same week! Des volunteered as tailwalker last week, for his 100th event and also his 25th volunteer turn. Des has completed 91 events with us, and also visited Cobram, Ballarat, Pakenham, Berwick Stprings, Hobart (Tas), Railton (Tas), Devonport (Tas) and Cairns (Qld) parkruns. His current best time is 34:08, and his volunteer roles have been spread across tailwalking, pacing, photographer and run report writer. Des's wonderful volunteering record and support for others saw him awarded our joint Parkrunner of the Month award last month. Thanks Des!

This week's amazing performances:
It's hard to believe, but 11 people still managed new PBs this week, in heavy rain! Our special mentions in this report are reserved for those who have already completed 30 or more local parkruns (10 local events for juniors), and it's the juniors who showed the rest of it how it's done this week:

  • Iskander Abu Taleb (18 parkruns, JM11-14): Iskander took a whopping 49 seconds off his previous best time, to set a new record of 32:28. Great running!
  • Thomas Koole (11 parkruns, JM15-17): Ok, Thomas might have only run 9 of his 11 at Lillydale Lake, but we'll stretch our criteria for getting a new PB in those conditions! Thomas improved by 13 seconds to register his 3rd PB in 4 runs, so well worth a shout-out.

Upcoming events:

  • Christmas: Yes, we are holding a Christmas Day parkrun again this year! Join us at the same time, same place on a TUESDAY for your chance to get into calorie credit before the big lunch. Rumour has it that a jolly fat fellow may make a return appearance...
  • And watch this space for an announcement in the next few weeks about our family Xmas party...
  • Charity walk: Dont forget this weekend our regular runner Josh Hellema will be walking around Lillydale Lake for 24 hours to raise money for Southern Cross Kids Camps (a charity giving abused and neglected kids here in our community a week of happy memories). So when you see Josh or his team during your parkrun, make sure you offer support and encouragement for this mammoth effort:)

As mentioned above, thanks to our wonderful volunteers for doing such a great job this week. Our photos are from Kylie Lomax, who didn't take *too* many selfies lol!

Christmas Day parkrun tradition continues at Lillydale Lake!

The Lillydale Lake parkrun event team are happy to announce that we will be continuing our tradition of hosting a Christmas Day parkrun again this year!

What better way to start Christmas Day than with all of your parkrun friends? Bring your family and start the day in calorie credit before heading to Nana's for Christmas lunch! A great opportunity to test out your new running gear that you've just unwrapped!

Join us at the same place, same time as usual (8:00am start) - we'd love to see you there!

Christmas Day and New Year's Day are the only two days when we can stage an official parkrun which doesn't fall on a Saturday.

We will be hosting on Christmas Day but WILL NOT hold a parkrun on New Year's Day.

Check out which parkruns are (and aren't) putting on parkrun on those two days so you can plan your parkrun touristing/adventuring:

Lillydale Lake parkrun – Event #163

Brrrrr - a chilly and very foggy morning greeted us this Saturday, but that wasn't enough to deter a large crowd of 170 runners (although the cold may have helped motivate so many of your to get new PBs!). Welcome to the 20 of you running your first event with us this week (we are very impressed with your dedication on such a cold morning!), and special welcomes to our parkrun tourists: Jason from Albert Park parkrun, Megan from Chelsea Bicentennial parkrun, and someone from Westerfolds whose name I missed (sorry!).

Congratulations to Manny Hatzimanolis, who was awarded our coveted PROTM (parkrunner of the month) award for May. Manny has run a total of 51 parkruns, 40 of those locally, and volunteered a total of 6 times, and is known as one of our most enthusiastic marshalls on the course, which he demonstrated again this week.

Congratulations to all the latest members of our parkrun milestone clubs:

  • Caleb Cavill (10 junior parkruns):  Caleb has run all his 10 runs at Lillydale Lake, starting in June 2016, and has a speedy PB of 20.36.
  • Lily Swain (10 junior parkruns): Lily has also run all her parkruns locally, and celebrated her 10th run with a PB (and another one this week to boot! - her third in a row).
  • Laura DiGregorio (50 parkruns): Despite being unwilling to get her feet wet to collect her award, congratulations to Laura for reaching the 50 club, with 46 local runs and visits to Phillip Island and Mullum Mullum parkruns, as well as two turns as volunteer.

Yes, we're trying to cut down on our waste, particularly plastic, so are no longer providing disposable plastic cups. Please try to remember your refillable water bottle each week - there are several drinking taps nearby for filling bottles. We do have a small set of washable cups for those who forget, but please do return these to the labelled bag so they can be washed ready for next week.

Upcoming events - lock these into your diary now:

  • April 29: Our 3rd anniversary party - with CAKE and a dress-up theme of the letter 'C'. Get your costume organised now :)
  • May 21: Our 2nd Barkrun event - celebrating our parkdogs, and brought to you by our junior parkrunners. (We'll be calling for juniors to volunteer for this event in the next few weeks).

Thank you to our wonderful volunteers, who make this event happen every week. Please do keep an eye on our volunteer roster, and help us fill any upcoming vacancies. We do have the best-looking volunteers!!

Christmas Day parkrun!

It's happening again! We will be hosting parkrun at Lillydale Lake on Christmas Day!

After a fun & successful parkrun on Christmas Day last year, the event team are happy to host it again this year! Will we have more than the 73 runners we had last year? Who will run a Christmas Day PB before heading to big Christmas feasts?

Run off those Christmas Eve drinks, escape the crazy household for an hour, and/or test out your new running gear that you've just unwrapped!

As an added bonus, once again you have the opportunity to run two parkruns in two days, due to Christmas Eve being on Saturday (normal parkrun) and Christmas Day on Sunday! What more could you ask Santa for?!?!

So, come and join us on Christmas morning - same place, same time (8am) as usual - we'd love to see you there!
