parkrun #89 was not meant to be!

A number of events in South East Queensland were cancelled over the weekend, including our very own Hervey Bay parkrun. Occasionally our events need to be cancelled and there are a variety of reasons for cancelling an event but the most common are due to reasons of safety.

Last Saturday our very dedicated set-up crew were down on the Esplanade and tried in vain to set up the course but the severe winds, rain and debris across the paths made it impossible. They assessed that with the amount of flooding on the paths there was too much risk to our volunteers and participants therefore we decided to cancel.  As soon as the decision was made, we posted an announcement via our Facebook page and sent our volunteers an email.  Throughout the day we received lots of lovely feedback from people who appreciated that the situation was out of our control - even though we know you were as devastated as us that we had to cancel!

The great news is that we are back on for this Saturday and the weather conditions look great! The weather bureau has a forecast of partly cloudy morning with 5% chance of rain and a minimum temperature of 12 degrees.  You all know what that means?  Great weather to smash out a PB!

Due to our cancellation, we will be handing out our Junior 10 and 50 Club certificates as well as announcing our parkrunner of the month! You can be guaranteed that this parkrunner would have showed persistence, dedication and improvement and has been a volunteer on at least one occasion!

The last thing we wanted to announce is the following Saturday 18th June we plan on having a kids-run parkrun.  This will be a day where our junior parkrunners will be invited to fill the volunteer spots (with some help from our core group of volunteers).  We hope we get plenty of kids who want to help on that day.  It is always lots of fun for everyone and great opportunity for our juniors that may not have had a chance to volunteer yet.  You can nominate your junior parkrunner by putting their name in the volunteer roster book at the end of the scanning table on Saturday or send us a message via Facebook or the
