Christmas Day and New Years Day

The Hamilton parkrun event Committee have decided to NOT to host 2 additional parkrun events on Sunday 25 December and Sunday 1 January.

Our free, weekly, timed 5km run/jog/walk, will take place every Saturday, including Saturday 24 December and Saturday 31 December 2016.

We have decided that on Christmas Day and New Years Day, we will all take a break and spend time with family.

If you would like to take part in one of the additional, approved parkrun events that take place on Christmas Day and New Years Day, check out the parkrun Australia Christmas Compendium online for all the latest event listings:

Scanning barcodes on smartphones and watches

Wangaratta parkrun When scanning barcodes and finish tokens post-event, it is parkrun global policy that event teams ONLY accept paper barcodes, plastic barcodes or official parkrun wristbands. This means parkrunner barcodes on smart phones or watches are NOT to be accepted for scanning.

All Hamilton parkrunners have complied with this policy since we launched our event in October last year. THANK YOU.

However, other parkruns are seeing an increase in the number of parkrunners that have attempted to have their smart phones or watches scanned. These attempts have not been successful. The few successful attempts have not been consistent, and this causes more problems than it is worth.

The current barcode scanning equipment that we have are not able scan these devices successfully due to the reflection coming from the screen. The scanners are not the same as those used in airports or at large scale music events. Our scanning equipment is basic and reliable when used as it was intended.

In addition, our weekly barcode scanner volunteer does not have the time to write down the parkrunner’s details and the volunteer Run Director does not have the time to manually enter results following the event. As you can appreciate, parkrun has been set up so it is easy for all the volunteers to manage the event each week. And it works just the way it is.

In order to comply with parkrun global policy and to be fair to all parkrunners and volunteers, in particular the barcode scanner and Run Director, the details of parkrunners who produce a smart phone or watch for scanning will not have their details recorded. Their result will simply be ‘unknown’ in the event results.

For a more detailed explanation of parkrun’s policy re the scanning of digital barcodes, please read this article by parkrun UK Managing Director, Tom Williams.

Fortunately, it is easy to print off new copies of your barcode. To do so, follow the link in the weekly newsletter, old results email or follow the 'request a reminder email' link on the Hamilton parkrun event home page. If you don't have access to a printer, why not ask a friend or relative to print it off for you?
