If you were one of the record-breaking 276 participants at Gungahlin parkrun today you may have seen that your time was recorded as 59 minutes and 59 seconds. This is the default time given to parkrunners when there is an issue with the stopwatch and the results are not recoverable. Today's run will be counted as a run towards your milestone t-shirts. If you timed yourself you can record your time as a freedom run using the freedom run link in your results email.
The Gungahlin parkrun team sincerely apologises for not being able to provide you with your time today, especially if you recorded a personal best. These are the steps that we are taking to stop this from occurring again.
1. The stopwatch we had trouble with today will be marked as the backup stopwatch and only used as the backup stopwatch. If this watch fails again it will be replaced with a new one.
2. Prior to the run briefing the Timekeeper and the Run Director, in tandem, will test the stopwatches to ensure that they are in working order and both are ready for the start of the event. Clear instructions on how to test the stopwatches will be provided.
Again we apologise and hope you can join us next week.
on behalf of the Gungahlin parkrun team.
