Grand Ridge Rail Trail parkrun Event #38

It was a beautiful morning to start the Australia Day long weekend. The conditions were superb for our parkrun – a free, weekly, and timed event. This week 44 people ran, jogged and walked the beautiful rail trail, and representatives of 8 different clubs took part.
We welcomed 16 first timers to Grand Ridge Rail Trail parkrun this morning. The visitors were from Coburg, Birdsland Reserve, Lilydale Lake, Albert Park, Frog Hollow and Warragul. Amongst those 16 first timers, 4 people were brand-new to parkrun today. It is fantastic to see new faces joining in the GRRT parkrun community. Well done David, Stacey & Marley and Marie for taking that first step. With diligence, you will be soon reaching your milestones. We wish you the warmest welcome to the GRRT parkrun. It was especially wonderful to see Marley’s smiling face with her mum Stacey near the finishing line. I have no doubt that they will be back soon.

Not only were the first timers having fun, but the regulars also. There were many happy faces of children, youngies, mums and dads, serious runners, seniors, people with their dogs, walkers with family and friends – all enjoying themselves out in the fresh air on the Saturday morning. The appreciation for the clean environment was so real and urgent in our minds after a few weeks of bushfire related smoke issues.

Congratulations to 6 people who recorded new Personal Bests today. Stephan Shankland, Kane Gostling, Raymond Borg, Melissa Stasinowksy, Kelly McCarthy, Linda Zhang. Well done on your great efforts.

Today’s event was made possible by nine volunteers. Many thanks to our volunteers. Liz Radcliff Run Director, Emily Aisbett and Ronan O Sullivan Timekeepers, Steve Quirk Finish Tokens, Glenn Wearne Barcode Scanning, Carmel Quirk Tail Walker, Robert Kenyon Photographer, Mark Lynch Event Day Course Check and myself Etsuko Yasunaga Run Report Writer. We simply can’t run parkrun without our volunteers. If you haven’t volunteered for a while, please check out the roster and put your name down. Did you know that when you volunteer 25 times, you will be invited to claim a free purple volunteer milestone t-shirt as a recognition of your effort? A purple t-shirt as well as 50th or 100th milestones may be your goal for 2020.

Marvellous Mark will be your RD next week. See you all at the picnic table.
