Volunteer of the Month

A big thank-you to this weeks volunteers, Joanne, Paul, Ryan, Stuart, Trevor and Run Director Chris.

Chris

We appreciate the effort our volunteers put in, and thank them from the bottom of our hearts for their efforts.

This event could not be run without your help and to show our appreciation we award a parkrunner of the month award each week.  From this month not only will the lucky person be awarded a voucher from our friends at Cafe Two, they will be presented with an exclusive prize from our sponsor Suncorp.

The Suncorp Bank parkrunner of the month award is a special opportunity to recognise and reward parkrun volunteers based on the common Suncorp Bank and parkrun principles of supporting the community and making a positive difference.

One winner for each parkrun event in Australia is selected by their Event Director per month, and must have demonstrated the following principles:

  • Volunteering (must have volunteered at least once during the month)
  • Persistence
  • Improvement
  • General support
  • Commitment to parkrun

The money-can’t-buy prize is a ‘Suncorp Bank parkrunner of the month’ running singlet for the winner at each event. In total, almost 1,000 singlets will be awarded over the course of the program (October 2014 to September 2015).

Who will this months winner be? I know but you'll need to come on Saturday to find out!

Coomera on Tour

It was great to see such a large group of Coomera runners at the Mudgeeraba's 1st anniversary.  Congratulations to those that managed to do the 5 km and a big fail to me for missing a turn and doing 6km instead of the usual 5!

ontour

Our next Coomera on tour will head to Calamvale launch - the 100th parkrun to launch in Australia.  Mark will be the tour guide for this trip, so please see him or any of our Run Directors of you have any questions.

Pacer week

A reminder that this week is pacer week & the pacers are out in force.  We will have 4 pacers on the course so please let us know if there is an elusive time you are aiming to beat and we will try and tailor our paces to help.

A big thank-you to our volunteers Harper, Stuart & Emily and well done to our newest Run Director Megan on her first go at the helm.

Megan

Volunteers make parkrun happen. Everyone who volunteers gets a terrific buzz from bringing a parkrun to life. Volunteering is a great way to meet fellow parkrunners. We encourage everyone to sign up regularly.

There are a few ways to indicate your intention to volunteer in coming weeks. First, you can place your name on the clipboard near the scanning table. Alternatively, you can check out the future roster page on the Coomera website and then send an email to coomerahelpers@parkrun.com with the dates you can help out and any preference you have for a volunteering role or finally send us a message via Facebook.

New Inductees

Congratulations to Georgia Hindmarsh for her 10th run and to Liz Manson & Peta Armstrong for completing their 50th runs

Coomera on Tour

International parkrun day

This Saturday is International parkrun Day which commemorates the launch of Bushy parkrun on 2 October 2004 and is now celebrated annually on the first Saturday in October.

In 2014 IpD is being held on 4 October and it is parkrun's 10th birthday so we have something extra special planned...

To celebrate this huge milestone we will be attempting to break the Guinness World Record for the ‘most participants in a 5km run across multiple locations’. The current record was set by Cancer Research UK at the Race For Life One Big Day event and involved 101,246 participants at 23 locations across the UK on 4 June 2006.

Bring your friends, family, neighbours, neighbours cousins and cousins cousins to help us break the record. The more the merrier.

We also invite you to join us for breakfast at Cafe Two afterwards - with our special guest Mr Parkrun Australia, General Manager, Tim Oberg.

Pacer week – Coomera saw 104 runners, 13 first timers and 37 of you recorded new Personal Bests.

This week I was excited to be among 98 runners at the Inaugural Curl Curl parkrun on the Northern Beaches in Sydney. The Northern Beaches is my hometown so it was special to share the event with my Dad & my sister who put her hand up to volunteer!

As you know parkrun can only operate with the help of volunteers. We ask that all runners volunteer at least 3 times per year to ensure parkrun continues to operate. If you can assist as barcode scanner on the 25th May please email coomeradirector@parkrun.com
There are also a number of roles available on the 1st & 8th June, check out the roster http://www.parkrun.com.au/coomera/futureroster/ and make contact with your preferred date and role if you can help.
