Capalaba Christmas parkrun 2020

Hello all,

We're happy to announce that we will be holding a parkrun on Christmas Day (Friday 25th of December) this year at Capalaba. It will start at 7am as always.  This is in addition to the regular Saturday morning events throughout the festive season.

We are still undecided about holding a run on New Years Day at this stage, but will update this news post as soon as decided.

Regards,

The Capalaba Event Team

Run Directors Report

Congratulations to all 247 parkrunners who completed event #290 this morning. Special thanks as always to our vollies for skipping their run and helping out instead; we are very lucky to never have a shortage of people willing to step on up and help at Capalaba.   First finisher today was Sam Doyle in an awesome PB time of 19:43! First female home today was Victoria Sugden, in an equally awesome time of 20:44. Well done to the both of you!

Thanks as usual to local cafes Wicked Brew and Costas for the discounts on a Saturday, always a highlight of the morning. Thanks also to our resident Federal Member Andrew Laming, for supporting our bid for a new parkrun camera, which we were lucky enough to receive recently.

Results and photos have now been posted, I hope you enjoy a wonderful weekend; look forward to seeing you again next Sat for more frolicking fun in the park.
Cheers, Amy - ED

A big thank you to today's volunteers, without you we don't have an event.

Reminders

Children at parkrun:

All children under 11 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Guardians must ensure that children place themselves appropriately so as to prevent a situation where they are being repeatedly overtaken at the start. This is to ensure the safety of your child. This is NOT negotiable and any child finishing without a parent or guardian will have their time removed from the results.

If you have a speedy child and can’t keep up, then see the Run Director and they can put a call out for someone to run with them. Alternatively, the child needs to run slower and stay with the parent. The same applies for a parent who runs faster than their child.

Printed barcodes are used at all our events to record your result. Please click here to collect and print your barcode. No barcode = No result = No exceptions. #dfyb (don't forget your barcode). Not registered with parkrun? Click here to register.

Want to get the most out of Capalaba parkrun? Here are some tips:

  • Make sure you've registered, printed out your barcode and brought it with you. Without it you don't get an official time!
  • Arrive in time for the weekly run brief, it may contain important safety information
  • Don't leave with your finish token, it's ours! It's on short-term loan to you from the finish line until you hand it to the barcode scanner (whether you're registered or not).
  • Only cross the finish line once! Seems obvious, but it happens regularly.
  • Similar to above, if you haven't run the full 5km course, please don't cross the finish line. Our volunteers are pretty awesome but we stop short of asking them to be mind-readers.
  • If someone appears to need assistance, ask them if they're ok. Your run is important, but a fellow-parkrunners well-being is more important. I'm sorry, but it is!
  • Running is important business, far too important to be taken seriously - have fun! Celebrate your achievements and those of others, if you're going to come to Capalaba you don't really have much choice anyway, we just need a hint of an opportunity to celebrate and we're into it...get on board!
  • "parkrun" - always one word, always lower case. :)

Pre-run brief each week

  • If it's your first time to Capalaba parkrun please come a little bit early as the first timers briefing is at 6:45am.
  • Then the pre-run briefing is at 6:50am. It includes any Capalaba parkrun news and important safety information each week.
  • Follow our facebook page for more up to date information
