welcome to the newsletter
In this newsletter on the 3rd of May I wrote -
“I don’t use the term ‘game changer’ very often however I’m going to put it out there that May 2016 is going to be a ‘game changing’ month for parkrun Australia! Why? I’m going to be announcing two significant partnerships that will, over time, have significant positive impacts on our organisation.”
The first announcement was of course our strategic partnership with Athletics Australia, one that is already providing benefits to parkrunners as detailed in ‘Join the parkrun Australia team in the Blackmores Sydney Running Festival’ below.
Today, a little later than originally planned, I’m making the second announcement and that is that we have signed a three year partnership with Australia's leading health insurer, Medibank.
Medibank joins Suncorp Bank and Stockland as a national level partner and it is through the contributions of these companies that our amazing volunteers are able to bring you parkrun for FREE every single Saturday morning.
I'd personally like to welcome Medibank into the parkrun family and look forward to working with them to help improve the health and wellbeing of all Australians.
Finally, as the 2015-16 financial year is coming to a close, just a little reminder about our fundraising campaign in partnership with the Australian Sports Foundation called ‘parkrun 4 everyone’. All money raised will go towards supporting the launch of parkrun events in disadvantaged communities and all donations are tax deductable! Click here for more information or to donate.

Medibank partners with parkrun to get Aussies active
Australia’s leading health insurer supports global movement to help Aussies reach their own ‘Personal Better’
As part of an ongoing commitment to improve the health of communities nationwide, Medibank has today announced its official partnership with parkrun – Australia’s largest running community.
Now in its fifth year, parkrun has more than 330,000 registered runners taking part in its free timed, five kilometer running events in 172 parks and open spaces across Australia. The weekly events, which take place every Saturday morning, enable Aussies of all ages and abilities to get more active -- from walkers or first-timers, to experienced runners and athletes.
As part of the three-year partnership, Medibank will roll out a number of initiatives designed to make it easier for Aussies to get out on the track. To kick things off and help achieve record levels of participation nationwide, Medibank and parkrun will launch ‘Personal Better’ day later this year – a national event which encourages Aussies to take part and set their own ‘personal better’ – be that through simply turning up to participate, or by finishing the run in record time.
Commenting on the partnership, Medibank general manager brand and marketing Fiona Le Brocq, says Medibank is looking forward to supporting parkrun in its mission to make physical activity fun, free and accessible to local communities, and in turn help create a healthier Australia.
“parkrun has seen huge success in getting thousands of Aussies outdoors and exercising. As a nation, we’re not as active as we should be, with less than one in two Aussies having exercised in the last three months. That’s why, in partnership with parkrun, we want to help encourage even more Aussies to head outdoors and experience the social, mental and physical benefits of healthy activity.”
parkrun general manager Tim Oberg says, “This is an exciting and important partnership for us, as Medibank shares our passion for improving the health of the nation through increasing participation in physical activity. We’re thrilled that with Medibank’s support, we’ll be able to ensure parkrun events remain readily available to all Aussies, and will be able to continue to expand into even more communities across Australia.
The parkrun partnership supports Medibank’s current brand proposition of ‘I Am Better’ and complements its focus on making physical activity accessible to all, supporting existing initiatives such as its sponsorship of the Medibank Melbourne Marathon and Australian Open.

Feedback from the field
Ros Upton – Last Saturday was my first time participating at Devonport parkrun in Tasmania and I absolutely loved it. I finished the 5km in just over 41 minutes. I usually walk this distance and it takes me about an hour so I was very, very happy with my result!
Drop me an email if you have an interesting parkrun related fact, happening or comment that you would like to share with all parkrunners.
Name: Ekaterina Obukhovskaya

I volunteer at parkrun because: it’s an excellent way to start the weekend, in the park with friends.
You should visit my parkrun because: we have very nice course; a lot of hills, a small lake and a beautiful apple garden! Also you can find homemade pies, beverages and positive people!
And when you’re in town you should also check out: In addition to the Kremlin you should visit Moscow’s parks! They are really beautiful and enjoyable! Gorky Park, Kolomenskoe, Izmailovo… and also they all have a parkrun.
