The Butt Turns Two!

B's were buzzing at the Butt as 110 runners congregated at the beautiful Blackbutt Reserve for our 2nd anniversary celebration.

parkrun medals were awarded to the winners of the annual points competition. Those who win these awards are usually those with the highest participation rates, as well as some volunteer stints during the year.

Female winners were: Ruby (3rd), Cory  (2nd) and Anne-Marie (1st).

Event #89 – A Swan and a Bunny

A rainy morning meant the wet-weather course was used and our resident feathered friend Mr. Swan was none too happy about us occupying his pond shelter. He voiced his opinion to anyone who came close enough.

65 parkrunners got out of bed and braved the wet conditions (and the swan). Legends one and all!

Event #87 – Backwards Butt for Harmony

Blackbutt parkrun #87 was held under grey skies, but the temperature and conditions were perfect for running, and communing with nature in our fantastic reserve.
This event was held on Harmony Day - it is marked by people coming together and participating in local activities. The continuing message of Harmony Day is 'Everyone Belongs'. It is about community participation, inclusiveness, celebrating diversity, respect and a sense of belonging for everyone - amply illustrated with the parkrun concept.
138 runners braved the reverse course on Saturday, with an excellent coterie of volunteers supporting the runners. Extra cones used to ensure no-one got lost going 'backwards'.
An amazing group of junior runners appear to be challenging themselves at The Butt - with some great times, new PBs set, and lots of enthusiasm. We love to see these young guys and girls participating (even if their parents cannot keep up!)
No incidents to report (though one runners crossed the line with blood all over his face from a blood nose - no fall or accident, and cleaned up okay)
Thanks to everyone involved!

Event #83 – Shorter butt Higher

The rain threatened but 160 hardcore runners showed up at the Butt for some fun. We used the wet-weather course which although it may be slightly shorter than the normal course (sshhh, don't tell anyone...) it has slightly more elevation. You wouldn't think we needed more elevation would you...?

Mitchell Jeffery (with Dad above) ran his 10th parkrun. Mitchell has now run at 6 different parkrun events. He is quite the tourist!

And speaking of tourists, we had a number of visitors this week with runners from as far away as the UK and Papua New Guinea, and of course a smattering of Interstate visitors too.

Event #82 – LOVE is in the Butt air

Blackbutt parkrun event #82 on Valentines Day, saw 145 runners enjoy a run on our scenic but demanding course.

The Mahoneys (below) were looking absolutely fantastic in their Valentines costumes and showing their love for parkrun while cheering home the runners.

It doesn't matter how tough Blackbutt is, our runners love it! Otherwise how could you look this happy after one of the Butt hills??

Just a reminder about some of our parkrun policies. Children under 11 must be accompanied by an adult at all times and adults should take responsibility for all children of any age that are under their care.

We are lucky to have such a beautiful reserve to hold our parkrun in, but there are many different tracks leading through the bush which is why we mark the course with brightly coloured cones to show the way. Those unfamiliar with the course should follow the cones and pay attention to where the other runners are heading. A map of the course for each event is available on the parkrun website.

Thank you once again to our volunteers who gave up their time to make this event possible. Hope to see you again next week.

Photos thanks to Julie Hearn. Awesome shots Julie!!

Event #77 – pOTM and some Baker Love

And they're off!

Out of the 127 parkrunners at The Butt on Saturday, 22 were first timers! Either nobody told them about the hills or they are a brave bunch..

It was that time of the month where the highly coveted award of "parkrunner of the month" was given out. This month's very deserving winner was Anthony Schwarzer (pictured below). Anthony has run 29 parkruns, with 27 of those runs at the Butt. Hills don't scare Anthony, that's for sure! Anthony has also shown his parkrun spirit by volunteering on 5 different occasions. Given that we ask for parkrunners to volunteer 3 times a year (which equates to 1 volunteer day for every 17 runs) Anthony's 1 volunteering day for every 6 runs is quite impressive and shows his dedication to giving back to parkrun. Oh, and he's a nice guy too!

Congratulations Anthony!!

The very excited Cassan Boards celebrated her 50th parkrun on Saturday. If you were wondering why there were colourful balloons bobbing there way through the Blackbutt bush, that was her! (I heard the emus were quite impressed..) She also brought with her her very own cheer squad! Nice work Cassan, enjoy your next 50!!

Remember, if you have a 50th or 100th run coming up, let us know. We'd love to help celebrate!

Our super awesome local sponsors Baker Love Lawyers came to hang out with us on Saturday, handing out much needed water and jelly snakes (my favourite!). Thanks Terry and Andrew, your support is very much appreciated!

Sensational photos supplied by Mike Haynes. Great work Mike!

And a super big Butt thanks to our heroes of the day, the beautiful volunteers!

Event #76 – It’s gettin’ hot in here!

January 3rd 2015 was an exceptional day - clear blue skies, temperature pushing past 28 degrees Celsius by the time the run was completed, and 110 eager and keen parkrun-ners participated - plus able support from our 9-10 excellent volunteers. This was a good turnout given the big effort put in by many runners on New Years Day, plus we had a few Queenslanders drop by to experience our wonderland. There were a few comments afterwards regarding our up-slopes and down-slopes - but overall they appeared to leave with good impressions of our location!

There were no incidents to report, though one young boy dropped out early (passing the finish line) with a sore leg, and waited at the finish with the vollies for his parents to complete the course. All other participants appeared to (enjoy?) the conditions, though the heat was not conducive to fast times! Great to see many families participating together, this is one of the major benefits of parkrun worldwide in my view!

Event #73 – Move over swan, the elves are taking over..

The 73rd Blackbutt parkrun was a festive event with numbers swelled by the annual visitors from the North Pole. The fastest Santa across the line was Jenny Doyle.

Keeping it in the family, the fastest Elf was Jim Doyle who did very well despite an injury.

A surprise result was Suzanne Macqueen, the fastest, and perhaps only Christmas tree in the event. Suzanne adds this title to her growing list of running achievements for 2014.

The fastest Reindeer turned out to be Nicholas Mulhearn obviously well off his usual blistering pace, but helped across the line by his two friends.

Photos thanks to photographer extraordinaire Rodney Dean. Great shots Rodney!!

The wonderful volunteers excelled themselves in festive spirit and professionalism.

Event #71 – Butt Royalty

Right here is Blackbutt (and parkrun) royalty. All have reached the 100 run milestone but here's the coolest thing. Between them they have run an astonishing 379 parkruns AND volunteered a massive 52 times!! Now that's dedication.

Ken (left) has 115 parkruns under his belt, 41 of which have been at the Butt and he has volunteered 15 times. Anne-Marie is a brand new 100-clubber, also with 41 of those at the Butt and has volunteered 10 times. Alan (right), a parkrun legend, has run a massive 164 parkruns, with 21 of those being at the Butt (he shares his love around) and has volunteered a truly inspiring 27 times!

These 3 are an example of what parkrun is all about. They are dedicated and enthusiastic, they give back by volunteering regularly and they are all exceptionally friendly and encouraging people.

Blackbutt Royalty, we salute you!

No, Anne-Marie did not turn 100 on Saturday (how dare you!!), but she did run her 100th parkrun! Congratulations Anne-Marie!

Azadeh celebrated her 50th run! And 48 of her 50 runs have been at Blackbutt!! She's certainly not afraid of hills! And the ever smiling Azadeh has volunteered with us on 4 different occasions. Thanks and congratulations Azadeh!!
