Batemans Bay Event 41

Batemans Bay Event 41

11th February 2017

The course records went tumbling on Saturday at parkrun as the mercury climbed! The hot summer conditions had little impact on the visiting Torley family who took out all the podium spots. 17 year old Joshua flew around the course in 15.18, a fantastic course record on his first visit to Batemans Bay Parkrun, 2nd place overall and first female went to his younger sister, 11 year old Stephanie who ran a scorching 19.05, a female course record. 3rd place overall went to Samuel Torley, in 20.14. An honorable mention goes to younger sibling Dominic who ran a 21.24 despite being the tender age of 8!

It was a sight to behold having some of the best junior runners in the area putting in a phenomenal effort over the 5k run in very warm conditions, giving some of our more experienced athletes some inspiration and something to aim for as the weather cools in the coming months.

Of the 54 runners and walkers to complete the course 5 managed personal best times; Roy Counsell, Lisa Counsell, Kevin Miller, Morgan Pettit, Sabina Wojtkiewicz.

Batemans Bay Event 39 28th January 2017

Batemans Bay Event 39

28th January 2017

The record books were re-written on Saturday in both the mens and ladies events, despite the warm conditions. Young Harrison Mcgill of the Nowra Athletics club ran a blistering 15.25 5k. That was 30 seconds faster than the previous best, which is an outstanding achievement for the 19 year old given the caliber of runners that have completed the Beach Road course. Harrison also now holds the Age Grade course record, which compares every runner with the world record time at their age.

In a great week for visitors Rebecca Brown, from Sydney took 20 seconds from the female record. The highlight of the local runners were young guns Brodie Cockayne and Lauren Evans who both finished third in their respective categories.

Of the 75 finishers 28 were first time runners. Big congratulations to Neville Madden, Roy Counsell, Catherine Walsh, William O’Brien, Anna Hutchinson, Sue Caldwell, Chris O’Toole, Libby Buttress, Tracy Denning and Megan Usher who all achieved personal best times in the summer heat! Well done guys, and as always a massive thanks to our volunteers this week.
