New Years Day

We are pleased to offer a New Years Day parkrun to kickstart your new year!

It will be at the same time - 8am

So if you want to put the annus horribilis that was 2020 behind you, then come and join us on 1st Jan 2021 for a 5km run or walk with friends and friends you haven’t met yet!

We are in need of volunteers for this coming Saturday - we need someone to hand out finish tokens, scan the barcodes and a photographer.

If you can help with any of these roles, please send us an email or see our facebook page.

Without the full complement of volunteers, we cannot  have a parkrun - we rely solely on our volunteers and expect that all parkrunners offer to volunteer at least 3 times per year - this enables us all to enjoy a run.

Christmas Day and New Years Day parkrun

Aveley parkrun will NOT be holding special parkruns on Christmas Day and New Years Day this year. We will still be holding our event on Saturday 26th December and Saturday 2nd January as normal though.

However, if you would like to get in an extra parkrun, along with extra points and extra calories burnt, then why not consider becoming a parkrun tourist?

There are a several parkruns throughout WA that will be holding events on the Public Holidays - please check out the link below for more details

Aveley parkrun Anniversary this week!

The face dress theme is open to anything you want so get a costume together and get down to Aveley parkrun this Saturday!

Aveley parkrun cancellation – Anzac Day

Please be advised that Aveley parkrun will not be running an event on April 25 2015 (Anzac Day)

Christmas Day & New Years Day parkruns

Aveley parkrun will not be holding special parkruns on Christmas Day or New Year’s Day this year.

Why not consider becoming a tourist at another parkrun to get some exercise credit in before the Christmas festivities or to blow the cobwebs away after the New Year's party?

A Christmas day parkrun is being held at Heirisson Island and New Years day parkruns are happening at Pioneer and Rockingham - more local events may follow.

The full list of extra seasonal events is available at the Christmas Compendium on the parkrun website. This page will updated as more parkruns make plans, so check back nearer to Christmas/New Year.

Volunteer Roles: What do our volunteers do?

Volunteer Roles: What does “Finish Tokens” do?

The finish token role is fairly straightforward, and if you've run at parkrun before, you've definitely run into this guy/girl. This volunteer is the one that hands out your finishing position token once you have crossed the line. Simple as that!

Volunteer Roles: What does "Barcode Scanning" do?

The barcode scanning role is another that you've definitely dealt with if you've run at parkrun before. The barcode scanner volunteer scan everyone's barcode and finishing position at the end of the run, or manually record details if there is a problem with scanning. The scanner unit has only one button to press, so hopefully nothing can really go wrong! If it's appropriate, these volunteers may also help sort the finishing tokens into order for the next week's event.

The best part about this role is getting to know all the other runners.

Volunteer Roles: What does "Timekeeper" do?

Timekeeper is one of the easiest jobs at parkrun, but also one of the most feared. The timekeeper is in charge of the stopwatch for the event, and whilst the role is just pushing one button every time someone finishes their parkrun, the responsibility of recording everyone's time can make this feel much more difficult than it actually is. Our timekeeper also works with "Finish Token" volunteer to keep everything in sync and ensure the right athletes get the right time.

As with all of our roles, we keep a "cheat sheet" of instructions in the box with all of our run kit, and our run director has a reasonable knowledge of how to operate the stopwatch and is available to help whenever needed.

Key attributes that we look for when filling the role of timekeeper are:
- enjoys parkrun and encouraging runners over the line
- can press a button
- knows left from right

Volunteer Roles: What does "Photographer" do?

"Wait!" I hear you say. Isn't it obvious?

Well, yes it is. The photographer takes photos. As simple as that. The photographer is the most autonomous role we have, free to roam the course as they like and take complete creative license with making a pictorial record of each event. The only guidelines are really that we want to capture both the community and park parts of parkrun, and as many runners as possible.

Volunteer Roster: How do you know if we need more volunteers?

There are a few ways that you can find out how the schedule for volunteers is looking. Email or facebook message both work to get in contact with us, and we can tell you what the current plan is.

We also keep the future roster on our website, and keep it as up to date as we possibly can. You can check the website roster at any time if you are thinking of helping and want to see which roles have been filled.

If you are interested in any volunteer role, please email us at

This weeks event ** Important Notice **

Please be advised that Aveley parkrun will be cancelled this week due to flooding on the path and safety concerns. The water is subsiding but we cannot be certain that the path with be clear for tomorrow morning. There is also some other council work that could be blocking the path further along the course.

We encourage you to try out some of the other great parkruns that are around Perth!

The closest two would be Carine and Claisebrook Cove, or maybe try out Canning River or Pioneer.

There are plenty more to choose from!

Thanks for your understanding.

Important notice regarding this weeks event

** Important Notice **

Hi all,

As some of you would know, a portion of the path around the lake is underwater. There have been people working to drain the lake and the water is receding but there is warning tape stopping anyone from using the path.

If the path is not cleared then we will be forced to cancel this weeks event.

We need to give everyone (including volunteers) time to make alternate arrangements so an inspection of the path will be done tomorrow before midday and we will update you of the outcome.

#boost your run!

This week is the third week of the competition and sees the winning parkrun get $1000!

For us to win, we need as many registered people at Aveley on Saturday.

So if you are registered and have not attended yet, then this is the week join us!
