New Years Day

Along with a run on Christmas Day, Aveley parkrun will also be hosting an event on New Years Day.

The event will take place at the same time as normal i.e 8am - so if you want to kick off 2017 with some exercise,  come on down on New Years Day and join other members of your community - we would love to see you!

Christmas Day parkrun

Christmas Day and New Years Day are the only days, outside of Saturdays, in which we can offer an event. Aveley parkrun will be hosting an event on Christmas Day for the first time!

So if you want to burn off some calories before the day's festivities, why not join us for a free, timed 5km run or walk on Christmas morning? The run will take place at the same time as normal i.e 8am - hope to see you there!

Aveley 3rd Anniversary!

We will be hosting our 3rd Anniversary celebrations on Saturday 9th July

The theme will be Doctors and Nurses (and anything health related) given that we have just received our own AED

So get your thinking caps on (or your nurse's cap) and come and help us celebrate!

Please bring a plate to share and there will be cake!

Aveley parkrun now have an AED

Aveley parkrun now have our very own defibrillator!

Thank you to the Carbon Business Group in Ellenbrook and to the Stockalnd/Aveley Community Grant scheme for their generous donations that made this possible.

A big thank you to those of you who completed the CPR/first aid training with australiawidefirstaid. - The course was very informative and we all gained the skills and confidence to carry out life saving procedures.

The AED will be stored alongside the parkrun kit every Saturday at the gazebo - in case you are ever asked to retrieve it in the event of an emergency.

CPR/defibrillator training

Did you know that approximately 33,000 people suffer cardiac arrest each year and that 80-90% of cardiac arrest victims will survive if a defibrillator is used in the first 5 minutes? Given that Aveley does not have an ambulance station and if someone at our parkrun was to unfortunately suffer a cardiac arrest, a defibrillator could potentially safe their life.

A company called Australia Wide First Aid has introduced a heartstarter initiative 'learn the skills and get the tools' and is offering 30 people the chance to complete a nationally accredited CPR/first aid course (HLTAID003 Provide First Aid and HLTAID001 Provide CPR) and on completion our parkrun will receive a free defibrillator.

We have now secured  funding through the Aveley community grant and together with the generous $1000 donation we received from the Carbon Business Group, we can go ahead with the CPR/first aid training and get the defibrillator that we need for our parkrun.

The courses will be split over 2 days - Saturday 21st May (CPR) and Saturday 28th May (first aid). Both times are 12-4pm at the Aveley community centre (22 Bolero Road)

The cost of the courses are $30 for both - this is very reasonable and heavily subsidized with the grant and the donation, as the courses would cost in excess of $100 without the subsidies. You don't have to do both courses if you don't want to, but the price will remain at $30 whether you do one or both.

If you are interested, please send an email to aveleyoffice@parkrun.com as soon as possible so that we can take advantage of this awesome offer and get a potentially life saving device for our parkrun and also have people with the skills to use it.

We need 30 people in order for the courses to go ahead, otherwise we will not have enough money to secure the required amount to pay for the courses and receive the free defibrillator. If you don't want to do either course but would like to donate your $30, that would be appreciated.

Once we have 30 interested people, we will email you the bank details to pay your $30 and also give instructions on how to register for the course. Then all you have to do is turn up on the required days and learn some valuable first aid/CPR skills!

If you have family or friendsthat may be interested then please pass this on to them.
So come on guys, get behind Aveley parkrun and give your support to our fantastic cause!

Event Director, Aveley parkrun

We are in need of volunteers for this coming Saturday - we need someone to hand out finish tokens, scan the barcodes and a photographer.

If you can help with any of these roles, please send us an email or see our facebook page.

Without the full complement of volunteers, we cannot  have a parkrun - we rely solely on our volunteers and expect that all parkrunners offer to volunteer at least 3 times per year - this enables us all to enjoy a run.

Aveley parkrun will NOT be holding special parkruns on Christmas Day and New Years Day this year. We will still be holding our event on Saturday 26th December and Saturday 2nd January as normal though.

However, if you would like to get in an extra parkrun, along with extra points and extra calories burnt, then why not consider becoming a parkrun tourist?

There are a several parkruns throughout WA that will be holding events on the Public Holidays - please check out the link below for more details
