Aplins Weir #74

Another Spring parkrun done and dusted!  Between the clouds, the breeze, and the brief drizzle, all our participants got to enjoy a serene 24 degree parkrun.  Our locals must have sensed it, because 101 people came out to enjoy the cool conditions.

Today was also a good reminder to take advantage of the cool spells while we've got them. Tony from Townsville Road Runners was in fine form and set a new PB at 16:33, with 9 other people following suit to claim PB's as well.  We also had 8 first timers come down, and we hope that you all keep visiting us at Aplins Weir to start your weekend with us.

Remember, we will be running a special Christmas day parkrun at Aplins Weir.  So, if you have no family in Townsville, or you want to sneak in a parkrun before the traditional Christmas feast, or if you're just really desperate to reach the 50/100/250 club, pencil us in for the 25th of December.

As always, our well oiled machine would turn into a rusty scrapheap without our volunteers.  This week's volunteers who have our utmost thanks are as follows:

Felicity LEON • Sarah-Jaye WESTON • Marianne BROWN • Debra THOROGOOD • Paul MILLERS • Vaughan BRUCE • Mikel BRECKENRIDGE • Julia HAIG

Today's full results and a complete event history can be found on the Aplins Weir parkrun Results Page.

Aplins Weir #73

Event #73 saw just enough wind to hold off our higher temperatures for most of the morning. 66 parkrunners, parkjoggers, and parkwalkers made it to the weir this morning for their weekly dose of activity and socialising along our beautiful Ross River.

13.6% of our participants managed to achieve a personal best!  That's 9 people out of our contingent of 66.  As well as that, we again had 6 first timers, and thank you to our parkrun tourist from Brisbane for visiting Aplins Weir for their first Townsville parkrun.

At Aplins Weir we always value all our volunteers, but a special thanks must go to Bob our timekeeper, who this morning reached 27 volunteers and volunteered for his fourth consecutive week in a row.

Thank you to all the volunteers who made this event possible:

Timothy MCKEAN • Lee NOLAN • William ROBERTS • Debra THOROGOOD • Robert VIGOR • Paul MILLERS • Sandy RENDELL • Krissy REGAN

Aplins Weir #72

Lovely breezy conditions welcomed our participants for our 72nd parkrun at Aplin's Weir this morning.  77 people made it out of bed today, with 8 of them definitely getting out on the right side of the bed to set personal bests!  We also had the pleasure to welcome 12 new parkrunners this morning.

Thank you to all our parkrun tourists who visited as well, whether from Gladstone, Brisbane, or just travelling from parkrun to parkrun around Australia, it's always a pleasure to have new faces attending.

As always, no parkrun is possible without the help of our volunteers:

Timothy MCKEAN • Melany VAUGHAN • Eleanor MCKEAN • Robert VIGOR • Cathy DAUMULLER • Dan DAUMULLER • Amy-Grace VAUGHAN • Helen HYLAND

Aplins Weir #71

Event #71 was a very busy Saturday morning, with many of our friends and neighbours from Riverway parkrun visiting to swell our ranks.  While it's always sad to miss your regular parkrun, we're all very happy we got to see your smiling faces this morning.  177 participants graced us with their presence this morning, increasing last week's number by over 100.

44 of our participants had their first time at Aplins Weir, and 21 people managed to record personal bests despite the fact that the temperature continues to rise week to week.  We look forward to seeing who can rise to the challenge and keep setting them as we head in to summer.

While the temperature does continue to rise, it is important to keep hydrated as well. We are aware that the drinking fountain near the finish line is out of order, so please remember to bring a water bottle.  If you do forget, there is a working drink tap outside the dog parks near the halfway point.

Finally, a big congratulations must go to two of our volunteer stalwarts.  Deb, one of our Event Directors, officially reached her 50 parkruns, meaning she gets to join the red shirt club, and Bob, one of our regular volunteers, reached 25 volunteers while barcode scanning this morning.  Thank you both for all your help over the last 71 parkruns at Aplins.

A big thankyou to all our volunteers, as we cannot run the event without you all.

Mark TARTTELIN • Jade CONNOR • Robert VIGOR • Meghan KNIGHT • Polly ADAMS • Paul MILLERS • David ARNOLD • Julia HAIG
