Run Report #35, 2 January 2016

After a drizzly start, our first parkrun for the year turned into a great morning. It was fantastic to see so many parkrunners come out during the holiday period, with 75 people joining us. 9 recorded new Personal Bests. We welcomed 23 first-timers and parkrun tourists who came from other parts of Melbourne, interstate (SA) and overseas (UK). We hope to see you again and maybe we can visit your home parkruns one day! Well done, everybody.

Thanks again to our volunteers who made the event possible and thanks to the many parkrunners who put their names down to help out over the next few weeks. For those that couldn't, please check your diaries and let us know. Remember we don't run from a pool of volunteers - you must let us know each time you can help.

Wishing you all a safe, happy and healthy 2016 and we hope parkrun is part of your resolutions!

Altona Beach parkrun is currently taking expressions of interest for new run directors to join our event team. If you would like further information or are interested in getting involved, please contact us at altonabeachoffice@parkrun.com or speak to the friendly run director at your next visit to Altona Beach parkrun.

Upcoming special dates

Barcode reminder

Printed barcodes are used at all our events to record your result. Remember: No barcode = No result

Finish line and finish tokens

We remind parkrunners to please cross the finish line only once – please don’t come through twice as it can cause problems with the results later. Please also be reminded that your finish token must be handed back to our volunteers after it has been scanned. Please do not take it home as a souvenir!

Safety on the course

Children under the age of 11 must be accompanied at all times by a parent, guardian, or other designated adult of the parent’s choice. It must also be ensured that children place themselves appropriately at the start so as to prevent a situation where they are being repeatedly overtaken. This is to ensure the safety of your child.

The path can get congested with runners, walkers, and cyclists, so please be mindful of other path users and keep to the left. Dogs should be kept on a short lead.

With summer now here, we encourage all parkrunners to bring water and keep well-hydrated. Please also remember that snakes love the warmer weather so please be aware of the potential for them to be out and about.

Sponsors

Altona Beach parkrun would not be possible or FREE without the generous support from our sponsors, Stockland, Suncorp Bank, Hobsons Bay City Council, and Vic Health – thank you for your contribution to Altona Beach parkrun and ensuring the success of our event.

Milestone Club T-shirts

parkrunners are able to order milestone t-shirts when they have completed 10 (Juniors only), 50, 100, 250, and 500 parkruns.

For those working towards a milestone, your profile page will show how many events you’ve completed and how many more you need to complete before you reach the next milestone.

If you are a parkrunner due a milestone, check your profile (accessible through the link in your weekly newsletter email or results email) for a message informing you that you are now entitled to claim your milestone t-shirt. A personalised link will then take you to the appropriate page on parkrun's Wiggle-powered online store where you'll be able to order your t-shirt(s).

With the weather now getting warmer, we encourage all parkrunners to bring water and keep well-hydrated.

If you are a parkrunner due a milestone, you will shortly get a message in your profile (accessible through the link in your weekly newsletter email or results email) informing you that you are now entitled to claim your milestone t-shirt. A personalised link will then take you to the appropriate page on parkrun's Wiggle-powered online store where you'll be able to order your t-shirt(s).

Run Report #21, 26 September 2015

Congratulations to the 93 runners and walkers who took part in Altona Beach parkrun event #21. Welcome to our 31 first-timers and well done to the 18 parkrunners who achieved personal bests this week. We wonder if the promise of pancakes at the finish line contributed to all those fantastic PBs?!! A massive thank you to Western Athletics for treating us to a delicious pancake breakfast yesterday - a great way to finish off a great parkrun.

Happy birthday to Terry BORAM and Kim GIBSON!

Unfortunately, we have lost finish token #68 - if you have this token, please get in touch and let us know. We would dearly love to have it back!

Volunteering

Altona Beach parkrun simply would not happen without the amazing people who raise their hands each week to volunteer. Many thanks this week to:

David AQUILINA (Run Director) • Andrew MERCIECA • Emma STODDARD • Glenn ROWLANDS • Jennie CHILD • Maree GIBSON • Phoebe GRAY • Rebecca LETSON • Renae ANDERSON • Sophie TAN • Zack ROWLANDS

We need 8-9 volunteers each week to enable Altona Beach parkrun to go ahead. If you would like to volunteer, we would love to hear from you - please see our Future Roster at this link and contact altonabeachoffice@parkrun.com with your preferred date and position. Thank you to all of our volunteers for their time and efforts.

Upcoming special dates

3 October: AFL Grand Final themed parkrun - wear your footy jumper or team's colours / International parkrun Day

31 October: Halloween theme
