Run Report #44, 5 March 2016

It was the perfect morning to tie up those laces and get out onto the beautiful Altona Beach parkrun course with a run or walk to start the weekend. 77 parkrunners did just that, with 16 achieving personal bests and 12 visiting Altona Beach parkrun for the first time, including visitors from Hastings and Lalor. Well done to everybody on their fantastic efforts.

We would like to wish our dear parkrun friends, Maree GIBSON and Kim GIBSON, a very happy 33rd wedding anniversary. Best wishes for the years ahead.

This week, we had a family affair with parkrunner of the month. Huge congratulations to:

Male parkrunner of the Month: Christian HYDE (JM10), with a phenomenal time improvement of 15:14
Female parkrunner of the Month: Elyssia HYDE (JW11-14), awesome time improvement of 4:56
Most Improved parkrunner of the Month: Dimmy HYDE (VW45-49), super time improvement of 4:07

What an extraordinary effort by the HYDE family, well done and keep it up!

Upcoming special dates

Barcode reminder

Printed barcodes are used at all our events to record your result. Remember: No barcode = No result

Finish line and finish tokens

We remind parkrunners to please cross the finish line only once – please don’t come through twice as it can cause problems with the results later. Please also be reminded that your finish token must be handed back to our volunteers after it has been scanned. Please do not take it home as a souvenir!

Safety on the course

Children under the age of 11 must be accompanied at all times by a parent, guardian, or other designated adult of the parent’s choice. It must also be ensured that children place themselves appropriately at the start so as to prevent a situation where they are being repeatedly overtaken. This is to ensure the safety of your child.

The path can get congested with runners, walkers, and cyclists, so please be mindful of other path users and keep to the left. Dogs should be kept on a short lead.

Especially in summer, we encourage all parkrunners to bring water and keep well-hydrated. Please also remember that snakes love the warmer weather so please be aware of the potential for them to be out and about.

Sponsors

Altona Beach parkrun would not be possible or FREE without the generous support from our sponsors, Stockland, Suncorp Bank, Hobsons Bay City Council, and Vic Health – thank you for your contribution to Altona Beach parkrun and ensuring the success of our event.

parkrunners are able to order milestone t-shirts when they have completed 10 (Juniors only), 50, 100, 250, and 500 parkruns.

Run Report #37, 16 January 2016

Not only did 93 parkrunners participate at Altona Beach parkrun this morning, but 24 were first-timers and 22 recorded new Personal Bests! Wow! Fantastic effort, parkrunners!! It was a perfect morning for a run or walk and we love seeing your smiley, happy faces out on course each week, enjoying parkrun. We're looking forward to next week already!

Volunteering

Thank you to our awesome team of volunteers today, without them, parkrun would not have been able to happen:

David AQUILINA (Run Director) • Andrew MERCIECA • Ashleigh STEPHENSON • Ben AQUILINA • Brydie ABRAM • Fiona KEAN • Glenn ROWLANDS • Joyleen STEWART • Kerry CASTREE

We all love to run parkrun but remember that Altona Beach parkrun can only continue if we have enough volunteers. We ask that each parkrunner volunteers 3-4 times a year. Please see our Future Roster at this link and contact altonabeachoffice@parkrun.com with your preferred date and position. Thank you in advance.

Photos

Welcome back, Andrew MERCIECA! It was great to see Andrew again, taking magnificent shots of our parkun. You can view Andrew's photos on our Facebook page.

Upcoming special dates

23 January - Australia Day themed run

With summer now here, we encourage all parkrunners to bring water and keep well-hydrated.

Milestone Club T-shirts

parkrunners are able to order milestone t-shirts when they have completed 10 (Juniors only), 50, 100, 250, and 500 parkruns.

For those working towards a milestone, your profile page will show how many events you’ve completed and how many more you need to complete before you reach the next milestone.

If you are a parkrunner due a milestone, check your profile (accessible through the link in your weekly newsletter email or results email) for a message informing you that you are now entitled to claim your milestone t-shirt. A personalised link will then take you to the appropriate page on parkrun's Wiggle-powered online store where you'll be able to order your t-shirt(s).

Run Report #36, 9 January 2016

A perfect morning for a run or walk, with 85 parkrunners joining us this week. 17 achieved PBs - excellent stuff! Welcome to the 17 first-timers who came along. We were pleased to have visitors from Canberra, and Christine TIMMS, Territory Director for Tasmania and Event Director for Launceston, visited us for a run along our lovely course. Also joining us was Caroline MACDONALD all the way from Bristol in the UK. We hope all our first-timers enjoyed their first parkrun at Altona Beach, or their first parkrun ever! And that we see you again very soon.

Congratulations to the winners of our parkrunner of the Month awards:

Male parkrunner of the Month = Brian HAMER - In December, Brian participated in 4 parkruns and achieved 1 PB. We would also like to acknowledge Brian's fantastic commitment to our parkrun, not only as a participant but also as a volunteer. Thank you, Brian, we very much appreciate and value your contribution.

Female parkrunner of the Month = Lauren BURNS - In December, Lauren participated in 3 parkruns, achieved 1 PB, and her time improved by a whopping 12 minutes 33 seconds.

Most Improved parkrunner of the Month = Bryce HAMER - In a month, Bryce's time improved by 2 minutes 16 seconds.

Well done to each of you on your achievements.

The Altona Beach event team would like to acknowledge the one and only Maree GIBSON, volunteer extraordinaire, who completed her 50th parkrun volunteer role at Altona Beach this week. We are so grateful for Maree's continued support of our parkrun and congratulate her on her exceptional achievement.

We would also like to extend a special mention to Kay COLLINS, who embodied the true spirit of parkrun on Saturday. After seeing a fellow parkrunner needing assistance out on course, Kay stopped her run to ensure they were ok and stuck with them, walking alongside them until they were ready to proceed with their run. Thank you, Kay, for setting a fantastic example and reminding us that it’s not always about the PB but that all parkrunners enjoy parkrun and finish safely.

Volunteering

We had an amazing team of volunteers who kindly donated their time to ensure Altona Beach parkrun #36 went ahead:

Rebecca PANTALLERESCO (Run Director) • Ben AQUILINA • Brydie ABRAM • Elva ZHAO • Kerry CASTREE • Maree GIBSON • Terry BORAM • Zack ROWLANDS

Thank you for your assistance - we really appreciate it!

Thank you once again to Zack ROWLANDS who took amazing shots of us all enjoying parkrun this week. You can view Zack's photos on our Facebook page.
