Albury Wodonga parkrun Event #97

Albury Wodonga parkrun
Event number 97
23rd January 2016

It has been a big few weeks with numbers up around 300! This week we had 294 parkrunners.

This time of year we generally see an increase in participants, as well as an increase of general park users. It is important that we are particularly aware of this and ensure that we follow the parkrun guidelines and give way to other users.

As 2016 begins we see some exciting events coming up! With plenty local and regional events coming up you should be starting to fill your calendar. For a quick look at some events, use the link below

Albury Wodonga parkrun
Event number 87
14th November 2015

Run Report
A great turnout this morning with 192 runners, 28 of those were first timers!

We have noticed a recent increase in the number of parkrun pooches. This is great to see as we must keep our fur babies well exercised. Just please remember to keep your dog on a nice short lead at all times and only one dog per person. Also, you can submit your pooch to the weekly newsletter for parkdog of the week!

As you may be aware, there are two occasions where you can hold your parkrun event outside of the usual Saturday, and that is Christmas Day and New Year’s Day. Albury Wodonga has elected not to hold our event on these days but we love to hear your thoughts on it. Also, if you are travelling, don’t forget to check what parkruns are near by!

A big thank you to everyone who put their names on the roster for the coming weeks. We will have the roster available at parkrun on a semi-regular basis, but remember you can always email us alburywodongahelpers@parkrun.com or facebook.

Happy running!

Albury Wodonga parkrun Event #86

Albury Wodonga parkrun
Event number 86
7th November 2015

Run Report

A fantastic spring morning with 209 parkrunners. 30 of those were first timers and a few travellers in the crowd.

Firstly a big THANK YOU to Annette Beckwith and team (the Beckwith family) for filling in for us while we enjoyed some time out to get married and shoot off to the Cook Islands! The Beckwith’s have been a huge support to parkrun for some time, regularly volunteering and assisting where possible. They embraced taking on the role of run directors and done a fantastic job! You will continue to see them at parkrun and Danae will continue to assist with the volunteer roster.

It has been brought to our attention that some parkrunners are taking a little short cut down the hill from the sculptures. I must admit this is appealing. However parkrun is a 5km event and this certainly will knock off some distance. In the end, there are no winners, parkrun is a race against yourself so you are therefore only cheating yourself. That being said, this has little effect on other runners. Focus on your time rather than the number on your finish token!

Run Report

Well done to the 164 parkrunners including the 33 first timers! As the temperature increases so do our numbers, very exciting to see.

This week we welcomed Robert Meagher to the 50 club! Well done Robert on reaching 50 runs, 46 of which were done at Albury Wodonga!

Another special mention to Emily Dibben who reached 100 runs – well technically 99 but we celebrated early. Emily will return to the Gold Coast where she began parkrunning to celebrate the big one! Not one to miss the occasion we decided this was an achievement worth a balloon…..which unfortunately did not make the 5km and did not receive a time. Well done Emily….Steve not far behind!

A big thank you to everyone who put their names on the roster for the coming weeks. We will have the roster available at parkrun on a semi-regular basis, but remember you can always email us alburywodongahelpers@parkrun.com or facebook.

Another great parkrun! Look forward to seeing you all on Saturday!

Run Report

Well done to the 147 parkrunners including the 17 first timers!
It was a beautiful morning and for the first time in what feels like forever, the cold didn’t set in on the volunteers! Usually around 8:30am our feet are wet and we can’t feel our fingers, but instead we were taking off our jumpers. Very exciting to see spring upon us and looking forward to the warm weather enticing a few more out.

Our turn-around point looks a little different with the building removed. It certainly opens it up more and hopefully improves the aesthetics of what really is the ‘ugly end’ of our course.

Run Report

Well done to the 108 parkrunners including the 13 first timers! Great to see the fine morning tempt a few more of you out.

A fantastic turn-around on the volunteer front from last week, so thank you to everyone who volunteered. We had the roster full and confirmation emails sent by Tuesday!

Another quick reminder that there will be no parkrun on 29th August due to course closure. The buildings at the turnaround point are being demolished and as a result part of the course will be inaccessible. The work is expected to be complete and path reopened on September 4th allowing parkrun to recommence on 5th September. However please check in the event the works are not complete to schedule.

There are a number of great community running events coming up. The very popular Fed Hill is this Sunday 23rd. If you haven’t registered as yet jump on the website or contact the Wodonga Athletics Club http://www.fedhillchallenge.com.au/ You will find some more flyers at the scanning desk for upcoming events so please feel free to take these after you finish parkrun!

Another great parkrun! Look forward to seeing you all on Saturday!

Albury Wodonga parkrun Event #72

8th August 2015

Run Report

Well done to the 92 parkrunners including the 6 first timers!

As mentioned in our run brief, we were very short on volunteers this week. Late on Friday night we still needed an additional three volunteers. A facebook post on Friday only attracted one volunteer. This meant our Event Director had to spend their Friday night calling friends to help out. As a result, we were short one volunteer and were not able to get photos from the event. This is rather disappointing given we have almost 2,500 registrations and only require six volunteers each week. We hope that volunteering is something that people do proactively rather than reactively. This means we can finalise the roster early, have the confirmation emails sent to the volunteers so they can prepare and the Event Directors can enjoy their Friday night! So please, spread the appeal, volunteer on occasion and if you have a non-running friend or family member this may be a great way to get them involved. All roles are very simple and full training is provided.

Congratulations to Dave Cromarty on achieving 50 runs! Also to Zoe Freeman for joining the Junior 10 Club!

Some of you may have seen or be aware that the buildings at Weatherall Masonry near out turn-around point are being demolished. The path will be closed from Monday 24th August to Friday 4th September. This will interrupt parkrun on Saturday 29th August and potentially Saturday 5th September if demolition is not complete. We are in the process of determining the best action for parkrun on this occasion.
