WOW, what a morning it was at Stones Corner parkrun! I'm sure that you will all agree that it was a fun morning having our juniors take over. They all did an amazing job and everything ran so smoothly, despite our last minute course alteration! We will be keeping a close eye on the council works this week and let you know if we need to make adjustments again this week.
Congratulations to Matthew Chandler who was our first over the line today in a cracking 16:50 & Lorraine Caldwell who was our first female finisher in 22:26.
I want to say thanks in particular to Renita Wilson who was instrumental in helping to organise our first Juniors Take Over parkrun morning, her enthusiasm was matched by our awesome finish line cheer squad!
If your family missed out on volunteering this morning, don't despair - we are hoping to have another Juniors Day a little later this year so they can all have a chance. Plus we always welcome families to volunteer together on any other given week...
I just LOVE this feedback about our Kids Take Over parkrun day. Congratulations Elliot on his first ever parkrun and to Cath & Angus for setting such a good example!
"Yesterday I jogged the parkrun course with elliot. He ran well over 4km of the 5km course and despite being "out of petrol" at the end, he finished strongly. This reinforced to me what parkrun is all about. For me, it's not about getting a PB every week, it's about teaching Elliot, and in time Jeremy too, that getting out and being active is fun, rewarding and a normal part of life. I know that when I was 3 I wouldn't have been able to accomplish what Elliot did yesterday. I am very very proud of him and thankful for the great event that parkrun is. Catering for all abilities, and encouraging kids to participate is a winning combination."
And some more feedback from Renita:
"There are countless benefits for families exercising together, and thanks to parkrun we have a great environment to do this in. My kids love the encouragement they receive from other runners who may not even know them, so thank you for all those who support our kids at Stones Corner parkrun!"
See you this Saturday for our regular pacer week!
A big thank you goes out to this weeks volunteers:
