Christmas Day 2018 and New Year’s Day 2019 parkruns – update

There are only two days of the year when parkruns are able to be held on days that are not Saturdays, but New Farm parkrun won’t be holding special parkruns on Christmas Day (Tuesday 25 December) or New Year’s Day (Tuesday 1 January) this time.

So why not consider becoming a tourist at another parkrun to get some exercise credit in before your Christmas feasting or to shake away the cobwebs after the New Year's party?

Christmas Day

In Brisbane, following the tradition of the past few years, South Bank parkrun will be running on Christmas Day at 7am, and you can park in the underground car park for just $2 until 10am.

There's also Christmas Day events at Capalaba, MansfieldMinnippiOcean View, Petrie, RedcliffeRocks Riverside, Sandgate and White Rock, all starting at 7am.

New Year’s Day

On New Year’s Day, you can “do the double” (i.e. two parkruns in one day) at any of these parkruns:

6.30am – Meadowbrook, PallaraRedcliffeWhite Rock and Woodford

7am – AshgroveKedronMinnippiRedland BayRocks RiversideSandgate and Warner Lakes

8am – Forest Lake

8.30am – CapalabaChermsideKelvin GroveOcean View, PetrieSt Lucia and Zillmere.

Please take care when travelling between parkruns.

Check out the full list of events for Christmas Day and New Year’s Day at www.parkrun.com.au/christmas-compendium/. There’s also the unofficial NYD doubles finder.

Closer to the time, keep an eye on the FB pages of the events you’ve chosen in case there are any last-minute cancellations.

Check out our facebook event for more info about our New Farm Christmas celebrations at parkrun on Saturday 22 December 2018.

Construction works – New Farm Park River Hub

The Brisbane City Council’s construction of the New Farm Park River Hub, located near Brisbane Powerhouse in New Farm Park is underway, and it is anticipated to be completed and open for public use in late 2018, weather and construction conditions permitting.

The subsequent works to revitalise the river-front (promenade) path, park amenity and improve wayfinding at New Farm Park are anticipated to start soon, weather and construction conditions permitting.

Currently, the promenade path is too narrow for its current use, and the path height is lower than highest tide and often becomes inundated and inaccessible during peak tides.

We will have some changes to our parkrun course next Saturday and perhaps later on as well.

Our modified course will result in some slow points within the first 1km of the course and everyone will need to slow down and be patient. If you are gunning for a PB or don’t want to be held up, please consider volunteering with us or touristing to other parkruns next week.

Please keep an eye on our facebook page and please attend our pre-run safety briefings at 6.50am each Saturday you parkrun to ensure you are aware of any course changes and/or cancellations.

For more info, see the BCC website.

The defib is stored in the plastic gear box between parkruns, and moved to the finish line for easy access once the run has started each week. It will stay there until the tail walker crosses the line.

If you’re wondering what a run director does, in a nutshell, they take responsibility for setting up pre-event, briefing the volunteers, delivering the pre-run brief, keeping everyone safe during the run, processing the results, recruiting volunteers and looking after the gear until the following week.

Amanda has been a run director 49 times (volunteered 88 times), and Angela 31 times (volunteered 44 times). Thank you!

We wish you both all the best and we’re sure we’ll see you at NFp in the future.

Works will also occur on the promenade path at New Farm Park between the ferry terminal, Powerhouse and River Hub. Improvements are anticipated to include additional seating, widening the path and increasing its height.

Christmas Day 2018 and New Year’s Day 2019 parkruns

There are only two days of the year when parkruns are able to be held on days that are not Saturdays, but New Farm parkrun won’t be holding special parkruns on Christmas Day (Tuesday 25 December) or New Year’s Day (Tuesday 1 January) this time.

So why not consider becoming a tourist at another parkrun to get some exercise credit in before your Christmas feasting or to shake away the cobwebs after the New Year's party?

In Brisbane, following the tradition of the past few years, South Bank parkrun will be running on Christmas Day at 7am, and you can park in the underground car park for just $2 until 10am. There's also Christmas Day events at CapalabaMinnippi, Ocean ViewRocks Riverside and Sandgate, all starting at 7am.

On New Year’s Day, you can “do the double” at any of these parkruns:

6.30am – Meadowbrook and Pallara
7am – Ashgrove, Kedron, Minnippi, Ocean View, Redland BayRocks Riverside and Sandgate
8am – Forest Lake
8.30am – Capalaba, Chermside, Kelvin Grove, St Lucia and Zillmere.

Please take care when travelling between parkruns.

Check out the full list of events for Christmas Day and New Year’s Day at www.parkrun.com.au/christmas-compendium/. Keep an eye on this list for any changes and updates between now and mid-December.

Stay tuned to our facebook page for more info about our Christmas celebrations at parkrun on Saturday 22 December 2018.
