Event 18 Run Report – 25/01/14

Aussie, Aussie Aussie!

The cold and windy weather failed to dampen the Aussie spirit at our first Aussie-themed parkrun today, with many of the the runners and all of volunteers adorned in Aussie colours and costumes.

Before getting underway, Event Director Donella Roberts awarded best costumed prizes, with 4 winners receiving a $20 voucher from Merimbula Wharf & Aquarium Restaurant.

Congratulations to best-costumed winners Steve Isles, The Hampton Family, The Mackinnon Family and Craig Newman.

The rundown

Today there were 74 runners, of whom 20 were first timers and 24 recorded new Personal Bests. That's a third of the field getting PBs in crazy windy weather!  Congratulations to each and every one of you.

Representatives of 6 different athletics clubs took part and lots of visiting runners included parkrun tourists from Curl Curl parkrun, Tuggeranong parkrun, Albert Melbourne parkrun, Ginninderra parkrun, Berwick Springs parkrun.

 

The results

Men's placings:

  • Richard High of Sydney Striders, was first over the line in 18:19 - first appearance.
  • Steven Isles was second over the line in 18:59 - has been first to finish on 11 previous occasions.
  • Rodney McDonald was third over the line in 21:28.

Women's placings:

  • Christie Ahkin was first (7th overall) over the line in 21:59 - first time in 2 appearances.
  • Rickee Marshall was second (13th overall) over the line in 22:18.
  • Angela Mundy was third (14th overall) over the line in 22:18 - has been first to finish on 4 previous occasions.

The following runners recorded the best Age Grade scores:

  • Kerrie Tanner was graded 75.89% for the time 22:57 (17th overall).
  • Richard High was graded 75.07% for the time 18:19 (first overall).
  • Steven Isles was graded 69.45% for the time 18:59 (second overall).

Event 17 Run Report – 18/01/14

The rundown

This week Run Director Donella Roberts welcomed 73 runners from near and far, of whom 30 were first timers and 10 recorded new Personal Bests. Representatives of 6 different athletics clubs took part.

Course record holder Scott Imhoff was visiting again from Canberra, and while he crossed the line first in 17:36 his course record 17:09 set on 14th December remains intact.

For the 5th time in 8 appearances local Elizabeth Simpson bought it home for the women in 22:12.

Event 16 Run Report – 11/01/14

The rundown

Another great Merimbula morning greeted our parkrunners from near and far who were supported by 8 fabulous volunteers.

Run Director Anthony sent 75 runners on their way, of whom 25 were first timers and 20 recorded new Personal Bests. That equates to 33% first timers and 26% PBs - which is a huge effort by all!

On the eve of Australia Day you are invited to show your Australian spirit at our Aussie themed parkrun.

Merimbula parkrunners are invited to dress up in Aussie colours or costume - Anything you feel captures the Aussie spirit.

After the run let's enjoy a sausage sizzle, Anzac biscuits and lamingtons while we cheer home all our parkrunners.

Prizes will be awarded for best costumed and lucky finish tokens will be issued.

Event 15 Run Report – 04/01/13

The rundown

Thanks volunteers and parkrunners from near and far for another great event this morning!

 

There were 109 runners, of whom 27 were first timers and 31 recorded new Personal Bests.

 

Representatives of 6 different athletics clubs took part and a new course record was set!

Men's placings:

  • Mark Moses was first over the line in 17:34 - first appearance.
  • James (Albert Park parkrun?, please advise) was second over the line in 17:52
  • Sam Martyn was third over the line in 18:31.

 

Women's placings:

  • Coreena Cleland of Deakin AC, was first (5th overall) over the line in 18:49 - first appearance. NEW COURSE RECORD!
  • Alana Barnes was second (12th overall) over the line in 22:19.
  • Angela Mundy was third (16th overall) over the line in 23:02 - has been first to finish on 3 previous occasions.

 

The following runners recorded the best Age Grade scores:

  • Coreena Cleland was graded 78.65% for the time 18:49 (5th overall).
  • Madison Nolan was graded 74.92% for the time 27:15 (41st overall).
  • Mark Moses was graded 74.29% for the time 17:34 (first overall).

Important Messages

  • Results - Please be aware that there were a few errors in the scanning records resulting in some runners barcodes not showing in uploaded file. We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience and ask that if you had your barcode scanned but your result doesn't show please email merimbulaoffice@parkrun.com your finish position and barcode number.

 

  • Running Etiquette - Today we received feedback from a junior's Mum that another runner had made contact with her daughter when overtaking.  While we are certain this was unintentional, runners are reminded that extra care must be taken when overtaking others.

 

  • Supervision of Under 11's - As mentioned previously, it is parkrun policy that all children under 11 must be accompanied at all times by a parent or guardian at parkrun and we thank all parents/guardiens for respectParents/carers accompanying under 11's are asked to provide guidance to them in regards to keeping left at all times unless overtaking.

 

parkrunner of the Month

Today we also announced our parkrunner of the Month for December... Anthony Daly.

 

In December Anthony racked up 4 PBs from 4 runs and has totalled 7 PBs from 11 runs.  He has also volunteered on multiple occasions and is already on the future roster.

As well as receiving the coveted parkrunner of the Month certificate Anthony receives Club Sapphire cash vouchers.

 

Congratulations Anthony on this well-deserved award.

 

Lucky Runner Prizes

Three lucky runner prizes were up for grabs today, with randomly marked finish tokens declaring the winners.  Each of the three lucky parkrunners received 2 for 1 movie vouchers courtesy of The Picture Show Man Cinema.
