Run Report – Event #107 – 19th August 2017

Event 107

This week 196 people ran, jogged and walked the course, of whom 8 were first timers and 31 recorded new Personal Bests. The weather conditions were pretty good, although a bit windy!

Can we please ask everyone to be at the main briefing at 750am then the start line before 8am ready for the start, not up in the car park and running across joining in up near the toilet block area. 5km does start at the flags so if everyone could start there that would be great. We will have a couple of volunteers up near that area making sure everyone does the right thing.

Good luck to everyone competing in the Dubbo Stampede on Sunday. We hope you achieve your goals, whether walking or running. Please come to parkrun on Saturday, and enjoy a nice walk or run with lots of friends.

Dubbo Chamber of Commerce Business Awards

We are thrilled to be nominated in the Dubbo Chamber of Commerce 2017 Rhino Awards for Dubbo's Most Popular Business. Last year we were lucky enough to be a top four finalist, can we do it again?? We need YOUR help, please vote for us! Please follow the link on our facebook page to vote for Dubbo parkrun. I am sure parkie would love to have the company of another rhino to come to parkrun with him every week!

Course Etiquette

Just a few reminders regarding our course rules

Please keep to the left at all times (unless overtaking)
Always overtake when it is safe to do, watch out for the oncoming faster runners on their way back before you cross to the right side of the path.
Children under 11 to run with an adult.
Adults to only walk with one dog
Adults with prams to only walk with one pram (and no dog)
Please be mindful when walking in a group that you don’t take up the whole path and watch for the oncoming runners on their way back
Our course is 5km (measured) so if you are doing the full course you are running or walking 5km and can officially receive a time at the finish. If you are turning early, cutting corners or not completing the whole distance, you are really not officially doing the whole 5km and shouldn’t cross the finish line to receive a time.
If you are new to parkrun but don’t think you can do the 5km, please only go as far as you are comfortable and turn around. If you do this please don’t cross the finish line to receive a time. We encourage all walkers to participate at parkrun and we have no finish time limit.

Children at parkrun

All children under 11 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Guardians must ensure that children place themselves appropriately so as to prevent a situation where they are being repeatedly overtaken at the start. This is to ensure the safety of your child. This is NOT negotiable and any child finishing without a parent or guardian after an initial warning will have their times removed from the results. If you have a speedy child and can’t keep up maybe you know someone that they can run with, alternatively, the child needs to run slower and stay with the parent. The same applies for a parent who runs faster than their child.

Running with Dogs at parkrun

Your responsibilities
Dubbo parkrun loves having our canine friends running with us each week. If you run with your dog at parkrun please read through the list of guidelines to ensure you and everyone around you have an uneventful run.
• Run only with one dog
• Be kept on a short lead or harness and firmly under control at all times during the parkrun event.
• Try and get your dog to do its business before the start
• Always pick up after your dog – carry poop bags with you at all times.
• Try to keep your dog on your left hand side (outside of the path). When people are overtaking and when the runners are coming back after the turn this will help to prevent any accidents.
• Dogs cannot be registered runners

Start Line

Asking everyone to self seed depending on their capabilities has been working really well. We ask that people pushing buggies and people with dogs start closer to the back so as not to trip or tangle any legs at the start. Once everyone settles into their pace, feel free to overtake whilst safe to do so.

Finish Line

Please only run through the finish line ONCE. If you have completed your run and you go back out on the course to help / encourage another runner, please don’t run through the finish line again. We have started the roped area well before the finish so please pull off the course before you get to that area. This will avoid confusion for the timekeepers and help keep the results processing accurate.

Finish Tokens

We need these back every week to enable our results to be all in order. Please remember to hand the finish tokens to the volunteer when you have your barcode scanned, please do not take it home as a souvenir.

We have added a new volunteer to the finish line area. This position will be the Finish Token Policeman. Hopefully adding an extra pair of hands at the scanning area will ensure we don’t have any of our tokens go missing.

If you have a token at home from a previous run, please bring it back and give to the Run Director. We will be so pleased to see!!

Post Run Coffee

Please consider joining us for a post run coffee and / or breakfast after your run at
The Def Chef in Macquarie Street. They are offering bacon and egg rolls / coffee combo as a special for all parkrunners for $8 or you can order off the menu. parkrun have a table set up there every Saturday, please come down and join us after the run.

Barcode Reminder

The most convenient way to carry your parkrun Athlete ID barcode is on a durable plastic key tag…. Attach it to your car keys, shoe lace, necklace, wristband or zip. The tags are small, robust and scan perfectly each and every time!! They can be ordered from:

http://www.bentlogic.com.au/parkrun.html

DON’T forget when you have scanned your barcode at the finish, ALWAYS hand in your finish token. Please don’t take it home, we need them every week.
