CHRISTMAS DAY - If you've been a good boy or girl this year and Santa brings you some new running kit or GPS watch, then why not start the Christmas Day with a little fun run or walk with the Family in the park?

Darwin parkrun
Event number 7
7th December 2013

This week is the week of PB’s (and I don’t mean Peanut Butter)…..
I don’t know what was going on this week. Everyone was talking about how ‘hot’ and ‘sticky’ it was, maybe that caused everyone to try and get off the course quicker. Darwin parkrun took out the ‘Highest % of PBs’ in Australia this week. A staggering total of 52.2% of runners recorded Personal Bests this week.

I think it might be time to ‘Ask the Prof’ what the record is.
You can hear from the prof on
‘The parkrun Show’ (Facebook) – www.theparkrunshow.com.au

Anyway – Sit back and enjoy the photos.

Happy running.
30th November 2013

This week run report will be like my son, (short and sweet)
We had another glorious parkrun morning and it seemed to put everyone in a great mood.
Apparently this week was 'pose/ hi for the camera week'.

We also had a couple of visitors from the lovely Yorkshire in England. They will be sticking around for a couple of months, so let’s welcome Keith and Christina to the Darwin parkrun family.

Anyway – Sit back and enjoy the photos.

Happy running.

Darwin parkrun
Event number 5
23rd November 2013
In this week’s run report we thanks some new volunteers, discuss the points system and let you know how to register/ run for your local club.

First of all – Let’s give a high 5 for the new Volunteers. This week we had new Volunteers filling the position of Run Director, Timekeeper, Finish Tokens and Marshal. Including a couple of regulars on Photographer and Barcode Scanner. So BIG thanks to Trent deWith, Daryl Browne, Michael Lynch, Ben Edgar, Ness Cotton and Katie Connolly.
If you would like to help out there are always places available.
(don’t worry, all of the roles are easy to do)
So if you would like to give a hand, check out www.parkrun.com.au/darwin/volunteer
or email us at darwinhelpers@parkrun.com

We had a bit of a mix up with the course this week. With most people going further than 5k. From this week we will have a map up on the table before each event and give a better brief at the start.

Each parkrun event runs its own yearly points competition which starts from that event's anniversary, and carries through until the week before the anniversary in the next year.
The competition winners will normally be announced at the event's anniversary run where they will get a shiny medal.
In simple terms – Each week, each gender - the first finisher gets 100 points, second finisher gets 99 points, third gets 98 points and it keeps going down the line until the 101st finisher gets 0.
Volunteers gets 100 points up to 3 times a year.
Mens points table – www.parkrun.com.au/darwin/results/malepointstable/
Womens points table - www.parkrun.com.au/darwin/results/femalepointstable/
Simon, the first finisher ran in our inaugural event and finished first then as well. This week we had representatives from 5 different clubs. If you would like to add a club to your profile, update your profile from one of your recent emails.
Your club can be a running club, triathlon club, gym or crossfit etc.
If your club isn’t on the list you can add it into the system, this only has to be done once then everyone else can choose them to be their club.
Event number 4
16th November 2013

In this week’s run report we celebrate some Darwin parkrun ‘Stayers’, thanks some new volunteers and let you know how to register/ run for your local club.

First of all – Let’s give a cheer for the ‘Stayers’ that have completed or volunteered every week so far. Karla Nunn, Kim Bedggod, Suzanne Mullen and Jill Hamilton. All of these ladies, have either run or volunteered at all four Darwin parkruns. Then it’s no surprise that they are at the top of the points table. I will give a description of the points in next weeks run report. Let’s see how long the streak lasts.

Ashley, the first finisher was also a first timer, which now makes it four different first finishers in four weeks. We now have 228 registered runners for Darwin parkrun. We cracked the 200 mark last week and just kept going.

Registering your club.
If you notice on the results page, some people have a club beside their name.
If you would like to add a club to your profile, update your profile from one of your recent emails.
Your club can be a running club, triathalon club, gym or crossfit etc.
If your club isn’t on the list you can add it into the system, this only has to be done once then everyone else can choose them to be their club.
Thanks to this week's volunteers
As always, HUGE thanks and appreciation goes to the volunteers who help make this event happen. A couple of new volunteers this week and they did a wonderful job. This morning we had Andrew O’Brien and Suzanne Mullen. And don’t forget Ben Hosking and Warrick Baldwin running around in their red shirts
(a couple of guys from CrossFit Palmerston- Links below) who had a ball on tokens and photographer duties - thank you.
If you would like to help out there are always places available.
(don’t worry, all of the roles are easy to do)
Event Director – Mark Connolly

p.s. Thanks to Suzanne for the sensational cupcakes for my birthday. I enjoyed getting out and running, even with the enforced run/walk strategy when my son didn’t want to stay in his pram and wanted to go running too.

FROM TIM and parkrun Australia HQ
For the past 3 weeks you have all been involved in a titanic battle to ‘boost your parkrun’, courtesy of adidas. During this time we have seen record attendances across almost all events, a boom in registrations, and plenty of good, clean, parkrunning! To refresh your memory, for the month of November adidas put up a bounty of $1,000 each week to incentivise you, the parkrunners, to go all in for your event with the winning Event Director able to spend the prize on new equipment, a Christmas party, or both! For the last 3 weeks we have measured each parkrun location to see how it has stacked up against 3 key measures:

Week 1: 1st Timers - Measured by the number of 1st timers as a percentage of the total number of runners on the day.
Week 2: Personal Bests - Measured by the number of overall PBs as a percentage of total number of runners on the day.
Week 3: Participation - Measured by the number of runners as a percentage of the event's total number of registered runners.

Each parkrun event was only allowed to win once to give everyone equal opportunity to take the prize. Highlights from ‘boost your parkrun’ include:
- An Australian record 7,657 parkrunners took part on November 2, including 1,663 first timers!
- An amazing 1,653 personal best times were recorded on November 9!
- Numerous course attendance records each week, including 7 on November 16 despite horrific weather on the East Coast.

Drum roll please… The results are now in and we’re pleased to announce that the winners… will be announced by Robbo and Russ on the next edition of the parkrun show Australia podcast, due to be released tonight (Tuesday).

Special thanks must go to our friends from adidas for sponsoring this promotion. adidas have been the major sponsor of parkrun Australia since September 2011 and it is no exaggeration to say that without their support we would struggle to do what we do - bring you free, weekly, timed 5km running events every Saturday run by teams of passionate and inspiring local volunteers.
Event number 3
9th November 2013
In this week’s run report we celebrate a new course record, thanks some new volunteers,
cheer on more first timers and discuss the ‘adidas BOOST your parkrun’ competition.

First Timers, PBs and the adidas BOOST competition
First of all – Just like last week, let’s give a cheer for all the ‘First Timers’ that completed the 5k on Saturday. Adrian, the first finisher was a first timer and he also broke the course record. That makes it three different first finishers in three weeks. We had 22 First Timers out of a total 47 runners. This gives us approx 46.80851% of runners as First Timers and we had 7 PBs which is approx. 14.89362% of runners. Your first run at a new parkrun course does not get called a PB. It only sets a time for you to beat next week. Week 2 of the ‘adidas BOOST your parkrun’ competition was Personal Best week. We will find out after week 3 which parkruns have won the $1000 from adidas.
Week 3 of the competition is ‘Biggest attendance %’ week, but unfortunately events under 3months old are not eligible for this week as it would be too much advantage for us newer parkruns.
Registered Runners
We now have 196 registered runners for Darwin parkrun. It looks like we will crack the 200 mark this week.

Thanks to this week's volunteers
As always, HUGE thanks and appreciation goes to the volunteers who help make this event happen.
Almost all the volunteers this week were new and they all did a wonderful job. This morning we had Jill Hamilton, Amy Southon, Jodie Clarkson, Kim Bedggood, Trent de With and Andrew O’Brien who all made sure that everything ran smoothly- thank you.
Results are now up on the website also some photos on our facebook page (Darwin parkrun) and you should have received your emails from parkrun HQ.
On the weekend, we broke all kinds of records.
Including:

Most runners Globally (50,128)

Australian Attendance record (7,657)

Australian Attendance record at a single event (South Bank - 944 runners)

First of all – Let’s give a cheer for all the ‘First Timers’ that completed the 5k on Saturday. Both male and female first finishers were first timers. We had 26 First Timers out of a total 43 runners. This gives us approx 60.465116279% of runners as First Timers, which should put us in with a good chance for week 1 of the adidas BOOST competition. We will find out if Darwin parkrun has won the $1000 when week 3 has finished.
Week 2 of the competition is Personal Best week - Measured by the number of overall PBs as a percentage of total number of runners on the day. SO REMEMBER TO GET A GOOD NIGHTS SLEEP FRIDAY NIGHT.

Among the first timers was our first junior runner. Alison is in the JW14 category and completed the run in 31:31. Alison also came down to one of our test events where she ran around 35mins. That’s a nice improvement over 4 weeks.

If you remember Robbo from event #1, he has done up a little video clip of his journey for Darwins launch. See it here https://vimeo.com/78403968
Robbo is, along with Russ Jefferys, ‘the parkrun show AU’ podcast.
If you would like to listen, you can find it in a couple of places – in the itunes store, on Soundcloud etc. Check out the website for more details www.theparkrunshow.com.au
Huge thanks and appreciation goes to the volunteers who help make this event happen.
This morning we had Ness Cotton, Katie Connolly, Suzanne Mullen, Daniel Moo and Andrew O’Brien who all made sure that everything ran smoothly- thank you.
And another big thanks to the runners that have put their hand up to help us in the future.
(don’t worry, all of the roles are easy to do)
So if you would like to give a hand, check out www.parkrun.com.au/darwin/volunteer
For some reason the biggest smiles are reserved for the back end of the field. So it is always worth sticking around to see cheer them through.
Event number 1
26th October 2013

Congratulations to the 62 runners who took part in the inaugural Darwin parkrun
this morning!
It was great to see the smiling faces of the first timers and the ‘southerners’ joining us
on a glorious Darwin morning run.
Results are now up on the website also some photos on our facebook page (Darwin parkrun)
and you should have received your emails from parkrun HQ.

Today there was some great running from the speedsters up front,
with Simon Roberts our first finisher and Katie Kelly our first female.

JUST as important are the self titled ‘not runners’ crew towards the back
who also came home strong leaving a trail of destruction behind them.

We also enjoyed the hangout afterwards, chatting and mingling with the more experienced parkrunners from the south.
It seems a few of them struggled with the ‘stickiness’ of the NT.

If you noticed Robbo wandering around with the microphone
(and let’s face it you couldn’t miss him).
He is, along with Russ Jefferys, ‘the parkrun show AU’ podcast.
If you would like to listen to the Darwin special, you can find it in a couple of places
– in the itunes store, on Soundcloud etc.
Check out the website for more details www.theparkrunshow.com.au

adidas – One of our major sponsors, is going to ‘BOOST your parkrun’.
They are putting 3 x $1,000 cash prizes up for grabs.
adidas wants you to go all in for your parkrun with the chance to win
$1000 for your Event Director to spend on your event. It might be used
for some new equipment, a Christmas party, or both!

This could quite easily be won by Darwin if we unite for the cause! Get excited people!
2nd November: 1st Timers Week- Measured by the number of 1st timers as a percentage of the total number of runners on the day. SO BRING A FRIEND.
Make sure they are registered and don’t forget your barcode.
9th November: Personal Bests - Measured by the number of overall PBs as a percentage of total number of runners on the day. SO REMEMBER TO GET A GOOD NIGHTS SLEEP FRIDAY NIGHT.
Week 3 – As we are a new event, we won’t be eligible for this prize.

Huge thanks and appreciation goes to the volunteers who help make this event happen.
This morning we had Katie Connolly, Rhea Ten Haghuis, Suzanne Mullen, Chris Mullen, Daniel Moo and Katie Kelly who all made sure that everything ran smoothly- thank you.

Just a quick reminder that all parkruns are completely run by volunteers
and if you would like to help out there are always places available.
(don’t worry, all of the roles are easy to do)
So if you would like to give a hand check out www.parkrun.com.au/darwin/volunteer
or email us at darwinhelpers@parkrun.com

Happy Running
ED – Mark Connolly
p.s. These reports won’t always be this long, I am still a bit excited.
