Event #284 – 13 October 2018

284.13Oct2018A

From the Run Director

As I am writing this post the heavens have opened and it is hammering down!

Thank you to the 134 parkrunners / plodders / strollers / stroggers and dogwalkers that rocked up today to make parkrun a great success!

The weather was extremely kind to us and apart from a few soggy feet (which wouldn't have happened had you had wellingtons on) we were all dry!

Over the finish line first in 20:25 seconds was junior female Annabel Lee, and hot on her heels with only a 3-second difference was Chris Merder - well done both!

We had 12 first timers today which is pretty awesome considering the weather - we hope you love our course as much as we do and hope to see you back soon.

12 must have been today's lucky number, because that how many PB's were accomplished - awesome!

10 clubs were represented and we had some visitors from Rocks Riverside, Wangaratta VIC and The Ponds in NSW!

A special mention to our touring Junior from The Ponds, Abigail STEPHENS who was lucky enough to complete her 10th parkrun at Cleveland! Well done Abigail, maybe you can come back and do your 50th milestone with us.

A massive THANK YOU to our wonderful volunteers who without you parkrun would simply not happen:-

Alex SAMPSON, Declan, Laila & Tess JARMIN, Gail & Ian LECKENBY, Jenny BINKS, Kerri MAURICE, Peta CLARK, Lisa WILSON, Greg KELLY.

This is me signing out and I shall be handing over the reins to Liv next week.

Have a safe weekend!

Lisa Wilson - RD

Well done to the 184 participants of parkrun #280 - the weather was quite deceiving - cool at the starting line and hot hot hot on the course!

Nevertheless we had 15 PB's including the first person over the finish line, Junior Matthew Hansen who crossed in a very speedy 18:07. Our first female was another junior Annabel Lee in 21:18, first person with a doggy was Clayton Bootle and the first person to cross the line with a double buggy (including 2 children) was one of our RD's Reece - Congratulations to you all

We had 12 first timers, including tourists from Penrith Lakes in NSW and WA - wow! We hope you enjoyed our beautiful course and come back next week. We also had over 20 people who either did not bring their barcode or have not registered - registering is so so easy, follow this link to sign up to the best ongoing event:- https://www.parkrun.com.au/register/form/

We had 11 clubs represented including 12 Shedfitters and 12 Redlands Plodders - Good effort!

Our wonderful volunteers did a sterling job - thank you as without you parkrun would not be able to function.

This week we are grateful to:

Russell BARHAM - our TERRIFIC time keeper.

Jacqui BRADDON and Peta CLARK - our BEAUTIFUL barcode scanners.

Shaun CONWY, Suzanne HULME and Lara WILSON - our MARVELLOUS marshals.

Margaret CLODD - our FABULOUS funnel manager.

Gail LECKENBY - our FANTASTIC finish token distributor.

Lyn GILMOUR - Our TREMENDOUS tail walker.

I shall look forward to seeing you all next week, if you'd like a timed run don't forget to register or your barcode and why don't you all bring a friend - the more the merrier!

Have a great week,

Event #279 – 8 September 2018

279.8Sept2018A

From the Run Director

Well wasn't that a surprise little shower of rain to start our event brief today!! It always adds a new dimension to our brief when we have 150+ people squishing together under the covered area.

Congrats to John Peter who achieved 50 Club status today (see photo below)!

This morning we welcomed 6 brand new parkunners to our family, I hope you all enjoyed your first parkrun experience.

We also welcomed 11 tourists to Cleveland today, coming from Jells parkrun & Lillydale Lake Parkrun in Melbourne, Penrith Lakes parkrun & Galston parkrun in Sydney as well as a couple of Qld tourists from Berrinba parkrun & Redland Bay parkrun.

There were 11 people who forgot their barcode today, which is completely fine - you still got to start your day in the best possible way. If you would like to see your finish time next week, please make sure you bring your printed barcode.

If you finished after position 59, you may have noticed your position has moved up by 1 place. This was a correction I needed to make in the results processing and your time is correct, it was only your position that changed.

Our amazing event was brought to you by this wonderful people:
Andrew MORTEL • Annabel LEE • Cathy DUIGNAN • Daphne DAY • Edward CONNORS • Ella COOP • Gail LECKENBY • Jay MORTEL • Lauren MACNAIR • Olivia COOP • Selwyn LAWTON
I was told that the marshals received stacks of thanks from all our participants - THANK YOU for taking the time out to do this!
Next week's vollie roster is full so we just need 2 more volunteers for 22 Sept, please let us know if you'd like to help out.

Also a special mention to those who stopped to help a fellow parkrunner who wasn't feeling well. She was so grateful and said she was well looked after. This is what it's all about, helping and supporting each other, THIS is what makes parkrun so special so thank you all!

Enjoy the rest of your weekend!

Event #278 – 1 September 2018

278.1Sept2018A

From the Run Director

I'm a little late writing today's post parkrun blurb, apologies. But one thing's for sure, I haven't been able to wipe the smile off my face all day!

What an absolute inspiring morning we had. I've been parkrunning for almost 6yrs and today is definitely one I will always remember... I'm fairly confident everyone who attend will also agree.

For those of you who unfortunately missed it, here is a run down...

John Day achieved 250 Club!

Let's start with some stats to put John's massive achievement into perspective:

- There are over 1300 parkrun events worldwide, 330 of those are in Australia.

- of the 2,998,801 people worldwide to have completed at least 1 parkrun, John will be the 3,381st parkrunner to achieve 250 Milestone Club!

- At 87yrs young, John is now the oldest parkrunner in parkrun Australia AND equal in the WORLD parkrun to reach 250 Club

- John has volunteered 19 times

- John's parkruns have been completed mostly at Cleveland with 238, then the rest were done at various locations, South Bank, Capalaba, Wynumm, Stones Corner, Redland Bay and Kirra. As well as Devenport in Tasmania and 1 international parkrun at Southampton parkrun, UK.

- John's parkrun PB is 32:29mins.

So from everyone here Cleveland parkrun, congratulations John Day, we think you are pretty awesome and because of all the above, you were also awarded August parkrunner Of The Month!

Thanks to everyone who stayed and cheered John home today, it was such a lovely gesture and is what makes our parkrun so special. Also we need to give a special mention to the previous parkrun AU record holder, John Taylor (and his daughter Melissa) for coming all the way down from Kawana to congratulate John. It was so nice of you both.

Last but not least, thanks to all our volunteers who made the magic happen today...

Amanda MCAULIFFE • Cathy DUIGNAN • Edward CONNORS • Gail LECKENBY • Glenn DE SILVA • Jules WEAVER • Kathleen SMITH • Lea MCGILL • Louise BOWMAN • Maddison CARTER • Malcolm JONES • Marshall BROMWICH • Maureen CARTER • Monica DE LEACY • Nathan JOHNSON • Olivia COOP • Peta CLARK • Selwyn LAWTON • Stephen DYSON • Tim EDWARDS

I still need a timekeeper for next week so please send me an email if you can help - clevelandhelpers@parkrun.com

Enjoy the rest of your weekend and HAPPY FATHERS DAY to all our parkrun Dads.

Liv x
