Run Report #245 – 13 January 2018

parkrun245.13January2018C

From the Run Director

Thank you all for coming to parkrun this morning, we hope you enjoyed your walk, jog or run and the company of our wonderful parkrun community. Photos have been posted.

There were 10 volunteers, 204 parkrunners, 28 first timers, 7 PBs and 21 who forgot their barcodes or haven't registered with parkrun yet.

Our merry band of volunteers made it seem easy this morning , so thanks again to :

Lynne (Timekeeper), Liz (Funnel Manager), Peta & Dusty (Barcode Scanning), Roland & Bob (Marshals), Cathy (Photographer), Margaret (Tail Walker) and Liv who filled in at the last minute on Finish Tokens. We hope you feeling better Katherine and look forward to seeing you next week.

Our first finisher today was Marshall Bromwich with a time of 18:55 , Elle Brookes was our first female finisher in 24:04, Jacob Sands was our first junior male finisher in 22:12 and Lily Searston (as a first timer) was our first junior female finisher in 29:52.

Congratulations to Grace, Graeme, Reece (see photo below) and Will who all completed their 10th parkruns this morning.  We also had a couple of our regular Cleveland parkrunners complete milestone runs whilst touristing recently.  Congratulations to Christo Bence and Fiona Doherty (see photos below) who both became the newest members of the 50 club.  Fantastic effort, everybody!

Happy 7th Birthday to Charlie, who celebrated with his first PB.

We would like to reminder parents and guardians that parkrunners, under the age of 11, must be within arms length of you at all times.

We were also concerned to see a number of parkrunners in distress at the finish line.

Your safety is of our utmost concern so we ask that you ensure that you keep our young parkrunners close and that (in these hot conditions) you don't push yourself too hard and stay hydrated.

Have great weekend and we look forward to seeing you all again next Saturday,

Paul Mac
Run Director

Run Report #244 – 6 January 2018

parkrun244.6January2018d

From the Run Director

What an awesome morning!! 189 parkrunners, including several first-time parkrunners and tourists from as far afield as Meadowbrook, Logan River, South Wales and France (apologies to anyone I have missed).

Congratulations to everyone who took part this morning, no matter what your time or your finish place. Steve Wells was first male finisher in 20:59 (he said he was going to take it easy!!). First female place was hotly contested in the finishing straight with Anna Smyth finishing first in 22:39.

Congratulations to Cathy Duignan who was awarded parkrunner Of The Month for December. Cathy has run 25 of her 26 parkruns at Cleveland, has volunteered 19 times in 2017, is a great encouragement to everyone and loves parkrun and everything it represents. Definitely a worthy winner.

We welcomed John Weaver, one of our much-loved parkrunners, into the 50 Club today (see photo below). John actually ran his 50th parkrun at Capalaba on Christmas Day, but has run 46 of his 50 runs at Cleveland and so we couldn't let the occasion pass without him receiving one of our ED's fabulous '50 cakes'. (If you would like a cake on your 50th run, please send us an email a couple of weeks before and we will have it waiting for you!).

Jane Ransom completed her 150th parkrun today (see photo below). While this is not an official milestone, we think it's a pretty awesome achievement, so well done Jane.

SNAKE ALERT: One of the many good things about Cleveland parkrun is the beautiful bushland around our course, however this brings its challenges. We had two snake sightings on the course today, in the pond at the first marshal position on Goleby Esplanade, and on the Boystown boardwalk (thank you to Sharon our Tail Walker for keeping everyone back while the snake crossed....you are braver woman than I!!) . Please be alert and vigilant while running, particularly if you have young children and dogs with you, and warn other runners/walkers if you do happen to see a snake (& let the RD know).

COFFEE ALERT: Crackerjack cafe is seriously good. If you weren't able to join us this week, plan to do so next week.....look at all the happy face. Buy one-get one free, buy two for the price of one, buy two for half price.....it's a great offer whatever way you like to put it!

Until next week!!
Alison - Run Director

Run Report #243 – 30 December 2017

parkrun243.30December2017D

From the Run Director

Well done to everyone who chose to start their Saturday in the best possible way, even if it was a bit hot and sticky. First male finisher was Shayne Steenson in 19:28 and first female finisher was Annabel Lee in 22:26.

Many thanks to this morning's wonderful volunteers, without them we can't have a parkrun:

RUSSELL Barham - BARB Vaggelas - GLENDA Manson - PETA Clark - KATHERINE Hayward - MARSHALL Bromwich - MICHAEL Tyndall - ALISON Alder - BETHANY Alder - FINLAY Alder - BRANDON Taylor - Dusty MILLAR

Thank you to everyone who answered my plea for volunteers - our roster is full for the next three weeks. HAPPY DANCE! :)

Congratulations to MICHAELA Bijker and GORDON Davies who both ran their 50th parkrun this week (see photos below).

Gordon normally runs at Swansea Bay parkrun in Wales but did his first Australian parkrun at Cleveland and wanted to come back and celebrate this milestone with us. Thanks for letting us know Gordon so that we could celebrate with you.

Coincidentally, Michaela is also a Welsh lass, but she's now a local and has done 48 of her 50 runs at Cleveland.

Congratulations also to our Run Director, STU Williamson, who recently entered the 25 Volunteer Club (see photo below). We appreciate everything you do for parkrun Stu :)

Photos are taking quite a while to upload, so check back for these later this afternoon!

Have a great week and I hope to see you all again next week.

Run Report #242 – 23 December 2017

parkrun242.23December2017C

From the Run Director

The juniors took charge this morning at our Christmas-themed parkrun - and didn't they all do a fantastic job! I know all 114 of you who walked/ran/shuffled today will agree with me.
Well done and a huge thank you to our juniors; I think it's safe to say that Cleveland parkrun is in very capable hands for the future. (Thanks also to their parents for getting them there on time this morning - haha!)

It was great to see so many first timers this morning, some who were seasoned parkrunners and first timers to our beautiful course (including tourists from Panania in Sydney and even as far away as the UK), and some who were complete newbies and doing their first ever parkrun. It was fantastic to welcome to you all and see so many new faces. Please join us again when you can.

Our first finisher today was Marshall Bromwich in an incredibly speedy time of 18:53. Our first female finisher (16th overall) was Liz Lovering in an amazing time of 24:10. In addition to being the first female finisher, Liz also completed her 50th parkrun today (see photo below). WOW; double whammy! :)
Great effort; well done to both of you.

Remember there's no Christmas Day parkrun at Cleveland this year and the closest one will be at Capalaba. We hope to see a lot of you there.

Alison takes over RD duties next week, so I'm looking forward to running with you all again. In the meantime, have a wonderful Christmas, enjoy some quality time with your loved ones and stay safe.

Merry parkrun Christmas!
Cheers!

Run Report #241 – 16 December 2017

parkrun241.16December2017b

From the Run Director

Woah, it was hot this morning! If there was ever any doubt about whether Summer had arrived yet, the heat this morning made it extremely clear.

Well done to the 129 of you who braved the heat and crossed the finish line, whether it was a sprint, run, jog, shuffle, walk (or a combination of all of them). Remember to keep your fluids up and try to stay cool today.

Steve Wells was our first finisher today in a blistering time of 20:55 and Annabel Lee was our first female finisher (3rd overall) in 21:35. Congrats on your amazing efforts.

Two people became members of milestone clubs today. Annabel Lee - as well as being first female finisher - became a member of the junior 10 club, and Kylie Anderson ran her 100th run. Fantastic achievements, ladies.  (See pictures below).

We welcomed quite a number of first timers to our gorgeous course, and also said "Hi" to a few tourists from Logan River and Canberra. We hope you all loved our course as much as we do, and that you're able to join us again soon.

Next week is our junior charged Christmas parkrun, so get into the Christmas spirit and wear your festive shirts, tights, some tinsel, a red nose - or whatever takes your fancy. We still have a junior marshal position vacant (together with their mum or dad), so if you'd like to be involved, please let us know.

Lastly, as usual, a huge THANK YOU to our volunteers. We literally couldn't have parkrun without you all and your efforts are always truly appreciated.

Have a great week everyone.

Cheers!
Carmel - RD

Athlete Barcodes

No barcodes on phones

Friendly reminder that we do not accept parkrun barcodes on phones or watches. Our scanner is not reliable on devices so your barcode must be PRINTED.  Please do not ask the volunteers to write your details down so you can be added to the results, you will be politely told no.

Acceptable Barcodes

If you need to reprint your barcode but can’t seem to find the link… please click here print your barcode.  If you'd like to buy a key tag or wrist band, you can find them at www.bentlogic.com.au.  Go to the Bent Logic website to order yours today and remember… No barcode = No result, No exceptions.

Do you have feedback?
